The word "tribe" was eliminated from all official documents many years ago so why is he being asked for his tribe? However, if the officer suspects the applicant is not a Ghanaian, he/she has every right to ask for more evidence. Who knows if this person is a foreigner or an Alata man trying to acquire a Ghanaian passport?
This is a total fabrication to put one ethnic group against the others.

Americans born abroad or whose parents return to Ghana are registered as US citizens at the Embassy. This will help reduce future problems. Try to get some Ghanaians to register their presence at our foreign missions and see what they will tell you. Yet as soon as they get in trouble they first accuse President Mahama for their woes. If you lose your passport and claim to be a Ghanaian then make sure to convince a Ghanaian official you are truly a citizen. In short know your country inside out and be a remote citizen.

Well i can assure you that the same practice is taking place in the London branch(high gate)i sent in my filled forms and all required documents for a passport replacement,was invited for an interview two weeks later.I was first to get there on the said day,and was ask to wait to be called.Having waited for 3hrs and no show i then went to the counter to ask why i havent been seen.And all this time i can see some obroni people coming in after me for same day visa and obtaining it whiles i sat and wait.i was eventually call and ask to go into one office,i got in and there was this lovely lady busily talking on her mobile phone,i had to wait again for her to finish her very important call before attending to me,was also ask about voters id cards of which i didnt have but i did ague my way out of that,things are in a mess and we wonder why we are not improving hhhhmmmmmmm.

Holder's credibility is questionable on production a Ghanaian Passport.He is deemed to be a criminal, drug courier, or a possible economic migrant.The reasons for the facts above is because, we (Ghanaians) have colluded with other nationals to lay hands on our passport. Ghanaians are noted to carry more than one passport with different names.Nigerians, Ivorians, Togolese and east Africans have conveniently become Ghanaians.It is no wonder that Embassy Staff have increasingly found it necessary to make it difficult for these fraudsters to get hold of Ghanaian Passport. Asking ANY QUESTION to ascertain an applicant is truly a Ghanaian should not be seen as tribalistic. Most Consulars would bend backwards to help genuine applicants. It is amazing how we do things. The most appropriate requirement should your birth certificate. That should be placed on your file for future reference. If we leave the decision to individuals then I am afraid there would always be accusation of tribalism and nepotism which, might not be the case.

If you ever find yourself in a similar situation would you be happy if you were refused in a similar circumstance? Should we throw away the baby with the bath water?
In other countries, companies spend huge amount of money to produce Standard of Procedure (SOPs) for their operations. They train all new staff in these SOPs. This is so that there is a level playing field to their staff as well as client/customers. If you leave major decisions to whims of individual then you stand accused of corporate 'isms' as in this case. The writer might be wrong in his conclusion but what other explanation can we give.

Sometimes, one wonders whether these members of staff in this consulates know that they have an obligation to the citizens of that country. Why do enbassy staff feel superior for the mere fact that they work in that institution. Their job requires them to offer support, assistance and friendliness to their citizens who may encounter problems in a foreign land.
Why do they appear to resent Ghanaians with foreign passports who happens to visit the embassies for visa to Ghana? but on the other hand, fall over backwards to offer help and support to non Ghanaians instead?

They will charge you a translation fee and then call you later for help.

How many Ewes filed on the street to protest the humiliations Rawlings went through in the hands of Kufour and Akuffo Addo as foreign minister. While no-one is advocating for the segregations in our body politics of the kind the embassy staff "may" have exhibited, we must realise that no condition is permanemt in life and what goes round will definately come around as long as we live. In fact, most of the Ghanaian foods he is eating in Brussels originate from the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions. The Consulate Officer should be recalled and re-assigned to one of the small villages in the Ashanti Region as cocoa secretary to educate him that " one does not spit on the plate he eats from."

When shall all Ghanaians learn how to raise their level of understanding the differences between our political and tribal issues from practical issues of reality which will always be in the interest of our nation.
Anyway apart from all the usual frustration one experiences in the acquisition of passport in both at home and outside, there is a need that the embassy should have stated ALL the requirements including proofs that the apllicant is authentically a Ghanaiana or not.
If it is voters ID, that ought to be presnted, that's fine, but the embassy should have stated that clearly on the internet.
In reality there is too much frustration so the embassies should help the citizens so that the cordiality needed should prevail for our own good, so that the possibility of one jumping into political and tribal bigotry should not come into the equation to spoil our needed national unity.
In short the embassy in Belgium should bear part of the blame if we consider that the applicant in question had wrong in his publication.

Why was such questions needed anyway? If need be then such questions should be included on the application form otherwise these sort of allegations are going to be continued.
I can easily find myself in exactly same situation and give same answers to the questions asked and could be refused a replacement passport. That is why it is important that there is a level playing field for all. You may be surprised how some people, if they are given certain position would treat other they don't like.
We need a response from the consulate as concerning this issue and clarify if these questions are standard for passport replacement application in Ghanaian consulates around the world.

Even in Ghana today Nigerian businesses give employments to Ghanaians in Ghana, ranges from Banks, Insurance,Telecom, Airlines, Oil & Gas, Trade etc. How could Nigerians have wished they become Ghanaians; a people who are economically disadvantaged to you. Instead the sector minister must conduct a thorough investigation and come up with sweeping changes. I'm sure he will find out a lot of useful information to keep him/her busy. This problem cuts across party lines and we should avoid its politicization. Is it too much to ask for transparency in the recruitment and hiring process?

Some years back I had the misfortune of having to stop over in Belgium for a Ghanaian visa. I arrived at the embassy on a Monday which happened to be a holiday in Belgium so quite rightly the embasy was closed. The following morning I was among the very first persons to turn up at the embassy for the visitors visa. I was told by the official that it would take at least a weeek for the visa to be issued. After threatening to report the matter back in Ghana the official agreed to issue the visa so "I can take my trouble go." What was shocking is the way they treated the Ghanaians in Belgium and the Netherlands. The Ghanaians there had to go to the embassy with pressents for their stories to be heard. I met one Ghanaian who was holding a genuine Ghanaian passport. The Dutch police suspected that it was not a genuine passport so asked him to get confirmation from the embassy in Belgium. Instead of taking the matter up with the Dutch authorities, the embassy asked the Ghanaian to apply for a new passport. This poor chap had to use a significant part of his hard earned money to apply for another passport, which to me is not necessary. I am afraid the embassies, instead of looking after the Ghanaians and looking after their interest, do the exact oposite. I am pretty sure other may have similar stories to tell.

You must be aware that lots of foreigners, like Nigerians fraudulently obtain Ghanaian passports for nefarious activities, and when arrested they claim to be Ghanaians.
I know he should not have asked for voter's ID card, but should have demanded a birth cert, which is part of the requirements for a lost passport, without which you cannot claim citizenship.
So we should give the embassy staff the benefit of the doubt.
Please Rockson, let your friend re-apply, including a birth cert with the application and I am sure it will be granted.
