Why would you even think of applying to so many schools this is not Africa this is the united states of America you got thousands of universities but no need to apply to more than 3 or 4 after all you are going only one so why more? This is no biggie. If you decide to go to Princeton, yale, thomas Jefferson, standford etc.just choose your preferred 3 or 4 and apply but not 20 or 40 schools you donot need that unless you want the world to hear you applied to 400 schools. The acceptance letters will just keep coming if that is what you want.

Do you know about the IVY league schools in the USA? You choose your top IVY league college depending on what you want to study. She got Harvard, Princeton and all those top flight schools but decided on Columbia. Each of these top flight schools have endowment funds running into tens of billions of dollars. These monies are far in excess of Ghana's foreign exchange reserves. You can Google their reserves online. Instead of Ghana going to the IMF, we can perhaps go to one of these schools for a bailout.

What was she doing applying to 24 schools any. If you are accepted by one top university , you are probably likely to be accepted by the rest. The message I get is one of a confused candidate. She obviously could not make up her mind where she wanted to study. If she had done her research, she would have settled for a few universities which are strong at her area if study and settle on a fir rather than applying to some Many just for the publicity. Tweaaa!
If one got admission into Harvard, they would have been accepted to a double dozen more universities if they cared to apply.

Are our leaders watching this? This is about a system that works and rewards hardwork. The kid knows what lies ahead of her several months before she graduates high school. Compare that with our Ghana/Africa system where children becomes properties of WAEC for many years doing re-sits. WAEC is BOLA and those at the National accreditation who chases out students at private universities because they failed WAEC maths are very stupid to say the least. Recently a girl in Florida graduates from University at the same time she was graduating from high school. Our system needs to change to support success and not bondage. We don't need WAEC

No student in the USA applies to 24 universities. The most a student will apply to is about 8 colleges. The system in the USA is such that once you are spotted as a bright student by your SAT, AP (Advanced Placement) and GPA scores the schools start calling your home and bombarding you with admission letters. Bright students are bought tickets by the schools to fly to the schools and stay there for some few days to get acquainted with the school. Application fees to schools for bright kids are picked by college board and the schools. It is a total free ride for bright kids (Nerds) through college. Schools that you haven't even applied to offer you admission letters with full scholarships. That is how come one student could get admitted to over 30 schools, and they are all top flight schools. This scholarships can be as much as $60,000 to $100,000 depending on the financial status of the student's parents I pity bright kids in Ghana.

My congratulations to this obviously bright girl, and I hope she makes the most of her exceptional talents.
With her SAT scores totalling 2100, she really did not need to apply to that many schools. If she had a good guidance counsellor in her school, or if her parents were familiar with the US college application process, they should have advised her to apply to no more than a dozen schools, including all the 8 Ivy League schools, and comparable schools like Duke, Vanderbilt and Stanford. Predictably she could get into any of those schools, as she indeed did. An exceptional student like her obviously did not need to waste her time and effort applying to all those other lesser known institutions.
I am a bit curious about the choice of Columbia. Most people familiar with the Ivy Leagues will readily choose Harvard, Yale, Princeton or Dartmouth over Columbia for undergraduate education; of course unless there are other extenuating factors involved in making the choice. Since she got acceptance into 6 of the 8 Ivy League schools, I assume she got admitted to one or more of the above-named schools.
