You are being a twat. There is nothing racist about the case.
British nationality is not bestowed on a person because of just how long the person has been in the UK.
To legally work, you must have been given the right to work. You keep renewing the permission to stay and to work in the UK .After 10 years of renewal, you get the right to stay for an indefinite period if you are non British.
To get British nationality, you apply for naturalisation. This is pretty straight forward if you are staying legally and,do not have a criminal record.
In the case of Mr Shardey, the moment he stopped his education,he would become an illegal immigrant irrespective of any children he may have. From the available information,Mr Shardey did not do anything about his immigration status.Technically therefore,he does not have a leg to stand on.There is nothing racist about it.That is simply how the law works.
Having said all that,I do wish him well in his fight and think he would eventually get British nationality in view of his good conduct and his standing in the area he lives in.I believe his M.P and immigration lawyers would step in to help.It is just a matter of time.

This was what Dr. Busia was trying to implement in Ghana in 1972, regularisation of stay by all foreigners ( aliens Compliance Order), but national saboteurs misunderstood him for driving away non Ghanaians. If we had allowed him to implement that policy, every Ghanaian would have got the Ghana card as pertaining to nabouring countries with their identity cards.
I came to the UK in 1986, but l got my indefinite stay in 2006 after going through all the required processes, which included the "14-year continued stay" in the country and paying taxes.
I feel sorry for the man because if he had sought the right advice, he would have the opportunity to obtain his residential status settled over 20 years ago without paying huge sums of money.
No matter how long you live in a country as a foreigner you have to regularise your stay in that country and that was exactly what Dr. Busia tried to implement in 1972, but since we lacked foresight, most Ghanaians are without a common ID card.
What a shame.

Foolish statement from a fool.
Have you bothered to find out how Europeans regularize stay between fellow Europeans?
If not because they want to stop some Africans and other citizens of other continents destroying their societies with their evil selfish concepts, their borders would be opened to each European.
People like are the reason these colonial borders always divide Africans and causing untold problems.
I would not even attempt to show you why having over regulations like Busua proposed is not good for Africa.
Busua was partly from Bono and half of the Bono's are in Ivory Coast. Do you know how these divisions destroy communities more so adding compliance Acts.
For your information, some people walk into European and get their indefinite in 5 years so keep worshipping your cheap self.
You always enjoy sweating to gain things others get in one day. Slavery mentality!
The borders in Africa need to be removed not enforced for Africans.
The silly descendants of Busua and co are now allowing 'tormented souls' from the diaspora to walk freely into Ghana in the name of 'Year of Return' without proper regularization as in Europe and we shall see the consequences in a few years.
Locking up Africans allowing diasporan just because they think those from abroad are foolish to drop them millions of dollars while they sit on their lazy hands.

Don't also forget about our wicked leaders who make life very difficult for us to stay at home here in Ghana and work.
Look at the way Ghanaians are suffering economic hardships! Meanwhile some government officials have stuffed their bedrooms with millions of dollars and other foreign currencies which should be in the bank to keep the economy running smoothly. Also look at the misplaced priority of the NPP government, when the president promised Ghanaians to build them good roads, potable drinking water, educational facilities, etc but the government diverted its course while it embarked on a shameful project to build a cathedral instead.
Our leaders are the bane of our problems. They can stop galamsey and other criminal activities because we gave them power to act on our behalf, but they don't have the vim to fight criminals because they are their party members and the government is also a looting brigade. It's serious oo!

It beggars belief that he lived in the UK that long without regularizing his stay. Surely he must have known that as with most Western countries, legal documentation is key to everything. For example a person cannot argue that a house is theirs because they lived in it for 40 years. They have to produce the necessary deeds or genuine legal documentation to prove that the house really belongs to them.
Many foreigners including Ghanaians relocate to countries like the UK, USA, Germany France and others and conduct their affairs in the usual careless way many do back in Ghana. I just read in the foreign press a few weeks ago of a West African Pastor who was running a church in a small European town. He handled the Church accounts all by himself without any trustees. He was recently found guilty of fraud and misappropriation of Church funds and sentenced to a several years in Prison because he could not produce records showing how the funds were disbursed. It appeared that he may have used some of the collection over several years to fund personal projects. Well over a 100,000 Euros was unaccounted for.
The lack of due diligence, the lack of accountability or attention to what is appropriate or necessary will always lead to trouble.
Another area many Africans living abroad get into trouble over is failing to declare additional income for tax purposes.
We feel sorry for this man who demonstrated an ability to run a complex business successfully
yet for some unknown reason neglected his most basic responsibilities as a long-term resident of the UK.
