The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a viral video showing a minor driving a heavy-duty truck.

The video, which circulated widely online, sparked outrage on social media, with many questioning why a child was allowed to engage in such a dangerous activity.

The development prompted the police to launch an investigation.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on August 1, 2026, the Police Service revealed that a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man, who is suspected to be the driver of a DAF XF 105 articulated truck with registration number GS 3097-20, had been arrested.

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra, where they are assisting with investigations.

The Police Service cautioned parents and guardians to remain vigilant and prevent minors from driving vehicles, stressing that such actions pose serious risks to road users.

It also warned vehicle owners against allowing unlicensed persons to operate vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks, as doing so endangers the lives of commuters and pedestrians.

“The Ghana Police Service reminds parents, guardians, and vehicle owners not to permit minors or unlicensed persons to operate motor vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks, as such acts endanger lives and violate the Road Traffic Act. The Service urges the public to support efforts to promote road safety by reporting such incidents and ensuring responsible road use,” portions of the statement read.
