President John Dramani Mahama is currently trending on social media, particularly on Facebook, after a student poet from St John Bosco R/C Basic School referred to him as “President Hisense” during the Independence Day celebrations.
The term is popularly associated with a brand advertisement in the country known for promoting lower prices.
The remark was made by a female poet who was part of a group of students expressing appreciation to the president during the Independence Day event at the Jubilee House on March 6, 2026.
During her recital, the student praised President Mahama for his governance, highlighting reductions in the prices of goods and services, including fuel, flights, food and other products.
She personified the president with the popular advert, stating, “Omapanin Hisense, you have reduced everything in the country and we are now living comfortably.”

However, some social media users have taken a different view, linking her comment to the recent decline in cocoa prices and using the speech to mock the president.
One user wrote, “A poet hired to praise John Mahama ends up mocking him for reducing cocoa prices by calling him President Hisense.”
Others chimed in with remarks such as, “Who actually did this to the president? Omapanin Hisense paa. Cocoa farmers are crying.” “President mu Hisense.”
“President Hisense… Wate te bibia so sa hoooo. Stubborn school children.”
Despite the social media chatter, the moment reportedly brought a smile to President Mahama’s face during Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebrations.
