The black-and-white photographs capture thousands of jubilant citizens who thronged the streets and parade grounds to witness the historic event after Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule.

The historic parade featured disciplined march-pasts by security services, ceremonial bands and dignitaries arriving in official motorcades as citizens cheered enthusiastically.

The scenes also highlight the immense national pride that accompanied the birth of the new nation, with men, women and children lining the streets to witness what would become one of the most defining moments in Ghana’s history.
