An International Relations Expert and Lecturer at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre(KAIPTC), Accra, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso says local culprits could be responsible for the recent kidnappings in Ghana in a bid to make government unpopular.

According to him, the recent kidnappings could be done to impact negatively on the political fortunes of President Akufo Addo going into the impending 2020 elections.

“Ghana being what it is, mind you… are we sure some people are not hiding the truth somewhere, are you sure some people are not supporting this one way or the other [local people], just to make it seem like the place is insecure.

“Ghana being what it is, mind you…are we sure some people are not hiding the truth somewhere, are you sure some people are not supporting this one way or the other [local people] just to make it seem like the place is insecure. Be it political or not… It is possible but I’m not saying it is happening, I haven’t seen $10,000 before supposing someone says keep these girls for two days and get $10,000 I’ll do it. It is possible within our setup where corruption is at its highest and in the eyes of the international community, you could always do something to disturb a government. But supposing someone wants to make Akufo Addo government look bad in the eyes of the people for the next election.”

Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso was speaking on the AM Show on Multi TV Monday while contributing to discussions on the kidnapping of two Canadian nationals in Kumasi last week.

Ghana has recorded cases of kidnappings in the past one year.

The three kidnapped Takoradi girls who were abducted IN 2018 are yet to be located. The Nigerian national who has been accused of the crime is currently serving jail time.
