Deal with incompetent MoH PRO – Akufo-Addo told

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must deal swiftly with the incompetent Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Mr Robert Cudjoe, a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, Dr Kobby Mensah, has said.

Dr Mensah's comment follows claims by Mr Cudjoe that the pressure on Ghana’s hospitals is due to the rate at which Ghanaians are giving birth.

According to Mr Cudjoe, in order to reduce pressure on the health system, Ghanaians must control the rate at which they give birth.

He told Chief Jerry Forson on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM Thursday, 12 July that Ghanaians should take family planning methods seriously as a way of checking population growth in order to reduce pressure on the health system.

Although he acknowledged that the health system needs major improvement, he said the citizens also have a role to play by changing their attitude.

“Growth in the population of Ghana is a contributory factor to the kind of pressure we see in our hospitals these days and Ghanaians must take their family planning methods seriously”.

He added: “Apart from birth control, Ghanaians must change their attitude in order to avoid contracting sicknesses and diseases.

“I must admit that the health system in Ghana needs improvement, however, Ghanaians must also change their attitude in order to reduce the burden on the hospitals in Ghana.

“Some of the sicknesses are self-inflicted and if we can change our attitude, we will not be affected. For example, if we change our attitude toward the environment or sanitation, we will reduce the number of sicknesses we contract”, Mr Cudjoe added.

But Dr Mensah, in a tweet responding to these comments, said: “Dear Mr. President, @NAkufoAddo, often times we’ve had to endure such unguarded statements from the PRO of the Health Ministry and just in case you haven’t heard, the good people of Ghana are fed up with his apparent display of communication incompetence. Please do something about him.”
