Don't expose to much of your ignorance my friend. Just talk to a civil engineer and you will know that ur social studies article doesn't make any engineering sense; which the Vice President and his entourage should have done before jumping into it. Who told u concrete roads don't also get potholes?. Have you used the motorway???.

Concrete pavements are far better than asphalt pavements; wish our roads were paved with concrete, have advantages but are more expensive to build and to repair.

Don't know where this concrete road thing is coming from. The VP said he got the info from India. Well I wonder whether we should go to India to learn how to build durable roads . The trend in Europe where I leave is the replacement of concrete roads with asphalt roads. Most of the new highways in Italy and Spain are asphalt . In the U.K. Portions of the M1 motorway recently reconstructed are in asphalt. The problem with the asphalt roads listed by the writer is the poor work done by the contractors. The base of the roads was not well made. Unless the base is solidly constructed to take the load of vehicular traffic pot holes and other damage will happen. Even concrete roads built with a weak base will suffer the same damages. Those who are quoting the Tema motorway as an example of a the longevity of concrete roads should find out how the base was constructed. The Italian contractors were first class and applied the highest standards available then to build the road.
