  The deplorable and deteriorating nature of onetime dignified institution of nobility and professionalism, Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), today presents itself in shame and as a laughing stalk. In terms of credibility, the institution has ranked itself below average. There are obvious evidence of irregularities and illegitimate procedures in managing the place. The institute is now characterized by absurdity, prebendalism, kinship politics reflecting largely “Ewesism” and patronage politics dominated by NDC cronies and sympathizers. Privatization of management and staffing including virtually every aspect of decision-making. The one-man show popularly known as big-man syndrome is pervasive and very potential in ruining the academic fabric of the august institution. A timely intervention is not only necessary but also imperative to restore academic discipline and institutional credibility. I suggest every staff at the institute be subjected to thorough scrutiny to ensure that proper and better staff are retained and maintain to merit a new status as a public university
