WISDOM is of GOD and everything else is of man......So, if you lack WISDOM you will believe that speaking somebody else's language and aping around their lifestyle, will make you be like them.
It is the WISDOM that comes out of a lingo is what matters but not having others lingo shoved down your throat.
We need to WAKE UP GHANAIANS!!! The Chinese and Japanese Premiers don't speak lingos of others......their lingos are translated to others....does it make them less of a human???
The Chinese are even here raping us of our rich natural resources and here we are being 'English'???
WE NEED TO ERADICATE OUR MINDS FROM THIS MENTAL ENSLAVEMENT!!!!
HOW STUPID CAN WE BE????
GOD BLESS GHANA!

Parliament is a serious place and we cannot afford to have interpreters for Nzemas,Ahantas,Dagombas,Ewes etc. An MP should be erudite enough to read parliamentary papers or sit on parliamentary committees. One can be a traditional healer without formal education but one cannot be a neurosurgeon with rudimentary grasp of science. And stop comparing us to the Japanese and the Chinese all the time. They developed their own alphabet/characters. We sat on our backside for centuries until Johann Cristaller came to the Gold Coast, learned our language and put it into writing for us.To date, we have not even recognised or rewarded him for his monumental achievement.Human development index in Tanzania is not better than Ghana because they speak swahili. The Ivorians,Togolese and the Burkanabes do not whinge about French. English is a force for good in the globalised world.let us embrace it and improve upon it.

'Erudite'? Ha! ha! ha! Oh! dear! That is exactly what I mean. Ha!
I should google Ecuador, Brazil etc. but not google China and Japan. Are you for real???
It's so obvious you have been badly damaged by the enslaved education you have been subjected to, so much so that yo can't even realize who you are and where you originated from. How sad!
Look at the names you are quoting Johann Cristaller....ha! ha! What about your history? That is my point!!!!! You can't and won't get it! So, I rest my case. Maybe, one day you will or probably your children's children. Honestly, I can't blame you but rather those who have put structures in place for you to think the same way. And the rat race continues......

Does it require a "surgical incision" into your understanding that people like Cristaller contributed more in helping us write our own language? I have no time for nonsense! And where did you get your enlightened education from? Was it through the "foreigner"s" language or your ancestors had their own unique alphabet or system of writing in Ghana which some of us are not privy to? Discerning Ghanaians reading our comments can tell the difference between us.Keep harping on the same stupid string!

You had your writings before your so-called Cristaller came to make the likes of you realize who you are.
As I said I don't blame you for the ignorance of your own existence and who you really are. Your lack of knowledge about where you came from and what your own people have contributed to the world is very shameful......but very quick to refer to Cristaller.
Well, I am afraid I can't help you but I can only ask you to be open-minded and dig deeper beyond what you have been taught in school.....
Education is not about speaking English and aping other people's lifestyles, to be like them.
I know for sure that the ignorant ones have no time for the truth so, I guess I will leave yo to your ignorant demise. Discerning Ghanaians, who know why GOD created them and gave them their languages will NOT remain MENTALLY ENSLAVED...
Sorry if I offended you. All I was doing was to enlighten you of being GOD'S creation and can do and achieve whatever want, without trying to be like someone else.
And a little homework for you - "We wrote our own lingos way before the English started theirs"...please go research.

the Asantehene swears before he assumes power. The writer said English Language was used to oppress us. Well,I do not think other tribes who were subjugated by the Asantes will take it kindly on reading this.
"Friday, Stool of Kings, I sprinkle water upon you,
may your power return sharp and fierce. Grant
that when I and another meet (in battle) grant it be
As when I met Denkyira; you let me cut off his head.
As when I met Akyem; you let me cut off his head.
As when I met Domma; you let me cut off his head.
As when I met Tekyiman; you let me cut off his head.
As when I met Gyaman; you let me cut off his head.
The edges of the year have met,
I pray for life.
May the nation prosper. May the women bear children.
May the hunters kill meat.
We who dig for gold, let us get gold to dig, and grant
that I get some for the upkeep of my kingship.
The intimate connection between the Golden Stool and the fortune.
Next time write in your own language and there will be no friction between us.

Woyome OUTSMARTED them with the contract and made millions!!!! It is not Woyome's fault. We have IDIOTS who refused to learn English. And that may be the tip of the iceberg. How many Foreigners OUTSMARTED Ghana in other contracts? Jury is still out!!!
2)Justice Gertrude Torkornoo ( an Ewe) saved Ghana millions of dollars BECAUSE she READ and DIGESTED a contract which all those TWI speaking MALES could NOT READ and comprehend.
Pleased with her, President Mahama appointed her to the Supreme Court.

Modern governance is not for the uneducated and unsophisticated Kwame Attia or Mammy Serwaa! The inability of this self-confessed school drop-out to speak passably, fluent English is simply a reflection of her lack of the requisite education, knowledge and capabilities to be a legislator in Parliament in a modernising system like Ghana! It is a gross aberration that she was put forward by the NPP and got elected. It is all symptomatic of the dedifferentiation, that's, the politically correct word for the de-civilisation phenomena and going back to the bush processes that have engulfed Ghana since the overthrow of the Nkrumah regime. That's why a stark illiterate like Efua Donkor could form a political party and aspire to become President of Ghana!
Azure is absolutely right. We have been presenting petition materials on the Production Sharing Agreement to highly educated officials, etc., and some with Masters and PhDs even claimed they couldn't understand and make informed judgement on the issue, as it is not their area of specialisation. How much more this semi-illiterate?
If she can't speak English, can she even write it? Can she even write in Twi? Running Parliament is expensive enough to start adding the cost of interpreters for illiterates and semi-illiterates.
It is the wrong signal to the youth, that one can drop out of school and even become an MP!
Tweah! As for me and my house, there is no way we shall condone this mad backwardness and mediocrity.

Brilliant article! Decolonisation of the Ghanaian mind should be fast-tracked not only to halt self-hatred and gloating over "defending the values of the British", as Gen Afrifa vowed, and people like him are still doing but also cherish taking pride in one's own culture. Next, the new government should consider promoting indigenous languages through official recognition of Ghanaian languages, at least the major languages, and according them legitimacy in their use in Parliament, and even in official documents. We sing, "Yen Ara Asaase Ni..." but speak in "tongues" (English)where it matters most: Parliament. Aren't we ashamed of ourselves?

If the lady can not express herself in the basic form of communication in Ghana's Parliament how is she going to work in the sub-committee or review a document before it is passed? The "twinglish" can not make anybody productive in Parliament unless they go into "bla etisen" caucus for her to contribute and this I don't occurs frequently so the lady should do the right thing and vacate the seat. It is not about speaking english but about communication and understanding documents for review. Ghana at 60 and a Parliamentarian can not express herself in English and we have some people her supporting her supporting her. Support fine but if she can get herself educated that will be fine but business must go on and she can not hold the clock of progress in Parliament.
