Prof, it's not the size of the Appointment Committee alone but also the presence of other ministerial nominees on the committee. I noticed this clear conflict of interest during the vetting of ministers nominated by the late Mills and it has continued since then.

I do not apportion blame on the size of the committee entirely to the majority leader and our PERSCO senior. I believe it was a collective decision by the leadership of the house (speaker, majority and minority leaders).

The NPP has a huge majority in the legislature, so why go after the majority leader for his "I scratch your back and you scratch mine" approach? Had the NPP got a narrow majority or even won the presidency and not gained controlled of the legislature, then you could put the blame squarely on his back scratching approach. Don't be too harsh on him because I have seen it done here in the UK. When Cameron's ministers ganged up to remove the current Conservative speaker of the House of Commons just before the end of the last parliament and prior to the general elections in May 2015 because he was suspected of being sympathetic to Labour as well as his wife being a strong labour supporter, the plan failed. In fact, most Conservative MPs were furious with the clandestine attempt by the Executive to remove the elected leader of the legislative arm of government and voted against the motion.
