The old man said that the Ashantis got that name from the position they stand to fight their enemies. They squat and shoot their guns ie {ko to ko}. That is how the name Kotoko came to be and it has nothing to do with the porcupine. Ashanti "ko to ko" kum apem a apem b3ba".

I am sure if you ask those others if they hate, are envious or jealous of Asantes, these people will say a big NO! They will say they are not jealous of Asantes.
It seems it's only the Asantes (admittedly the less educated ones) who think others are jealous of them. You see, for you to think other people are jealous of you is to display your own vanity and pride because you assume that you're better than those people that is why they are jealous of you. Or that you have something that others do not have which is why they are jealous of you. That is also a display of vanity. I think that is why others (admittedly the less educated) accuse Asantes of being too boastful.
Mature and well-rounded people do not accuse others of being jealous of them or of being too proud. They rise above such sentiments.
I personally don't believe anybody is jealous of Asantes. Why should they be? And why should I be bothered if Asantes are too boastful?

Anyway, just want to observe that you are not acquainted with the book, The Asantes: A Proud People, written by whiteman or so. I am. That's why I can vouch that there is much left to be desired in what you wrote. Maybe, we could ask what the Asantes of old had done to be proud of and others are jealous or envious of. Are they things to be proud of in the light of modern knowledge and principles? Have others not done same? Are they also proud? Are they still doing those things? Are others not doing same? Yes, we can ask a whole gamut of questions.
We answer them later.

Even though we are cousins ,we fought 99 Wars cos Akyems wanted the British to give us all the Tribes in the then Gold Coast Independence as one Country, while the Asantes were fighting to form a Confederacy. Akyems had their Paramount Chief, Nana Amoako Atta, barnished to the Seychelles Island. The Akyems were much educated and continued to trouble the British by forming political parties, e.g. UGCC . Most of the leaders were in the BIG SIX which fought for Independence There was NO Asante in the BIG SIX and Kwame Nkrumah was brought in from overseas by Dr .J.B. Danquah, who was the Leader of the UGCC,to be it"s Sec. General. It was the Akyems who killed Osei Tutu 1 in one of such wars with the Asantes. There was no winner in the tribal wars but Gold Coast.

J.B. Danquah co-founded the UGCC. However, Danquah was credited as the founder of the party because he legally led the team. He was able to organise most of the chiefs of Akyem and to some extend the chiefs of the asante kingdom except that the asantehene would not agree to the terms. It was actually Paa Grant who was credited as "the father of gold coast politics". He, Paa Grant, spearheaded the political movement. He had already organised all the chiefs in Nzema his homeland and the chiefs of the fantes etc but lacked the academic prowess to continue. It was then, there that J.B. Danquah comes in because, not only was he educated but he brilliantly brought together almost all gold coast academicians and some of the most powerful chiefs together thereby facilitating the formation of a joint and reconcilable political party UGCC.
But you guys makes the whole thing appear as an Akyem - Asante affair, very very pathetic.
Am always wondering why the akyems and the asantes crave for some glory that they genuinely to not qualify always wish the hands of history be turned on their favour.
I don't in any way, try to discredit the great asante empire but the asantes and the akyems turns to lie about everything just for some vain glory.a a I can think far for that. whyyyyy ah! you guys don't know shame.

Throw away with your lying dreams of history...Oh how can you lie like that....Why do you think Anokye (Junior Ano) being an Nzema himself said the Asantes and the Nzimas should not fight themselves (Well for sanity sake i will not reveal the secret) because they are brothers. Explain to me why Anokye said that?
Before the arrival of the europeans; the nzimas were the first to contact the Portuguese (at Beyin then the fantes etc go and educate yourself bro)
Don't forget in oral history it is only the Nzemas who have beaten the asantes against all the other akan tribes and how nzema saved your kingdom; go and ask your grandfathers who knows and stop having false impression of yourself...
Please don't conjure falsehood as genuine history ...Nzema was called kotoko (kponz3l3) before Asante kotoko existed, but after the first civil war of nzema where the nzemas lost about 200,000 to 400,000 of their citizens they downplayed the use of kotoko for Erzoah until nzema and asante became strong allies due to the wickedness of King Kaku aka (Kweku akaa or ackaah) whose divisiveness brought about the second and final civil war of nzema where the asantes were invited to come and defend nzema for anokye sake.
I can go on and on for a rich history (not the concocted ones that you the asantes have created for yourselves) but it won't be necessary.
