It is a strategic move for the NDC to pick a fante/Akan as part of their ticket because it does break the Akan front and helps them win. The Akan faction that swings between the two major parties are the fantis, so makes a lot of sense to have a Fanti on the ticket. Mills did not last just because he was ill when he was elected, so his demise was not surprising. For NDC to win they need some Akan votes and they recognize that. Fantis/Akan on the NDC ticket is necessary for them to win, it is really not because they care about the Akans or for that matter the fantis. Sure, that is the power the fantis have in NDC though they have not used that to improve the Central/Western region as they should.

With its objective of electoral victory attained, the NDC tends to treat callously the region and its political representatives. Yes, there is the palpable inclination to fear for the predictable fate of poor Amissah Arthur. The die is cast, going by NDC's track record vis a vis its VPs from the Central region.
