  On a pleasantly cold day a few friends gathered around a table to enjoy a few rounds of rum. After several pegs the discussion turned around to the existence of God. The group automatically parted in two - atheists and believers - and the arguments got fierce.
  
  Our friend William was a staunch atheist and insisted that God doesn’t exist. In a fit of drunken stupor, William wrote a letter to God, put it in an envelope and addressed it:
  
  “To, The God Almighty, Omnipresent.” and asked his opponent to post it. By next morning everything was forgotten.
  
  Out of the blue, after a month the same letter was returned with remarks: “Address not found.”
  
  He gathered the same group the same evening and proudly displayed the envelope: “Look, this is official now with government endorsement.”

  To the list of ventriloquist elements one can also add some members of the academic fraternity especially political science lecturers who think they hold a magic wand in swaying the thinking of the voting public by their parochial and veiled endorsements of certain candidates, through their write-ups and interviews.

  As for Ghana, anybody who says he has a PhD is called an intellectual. What really makes Bawumia an intellectual? He doesn't have any academic qualifications that are not possessed by hundreds of other Ghanaians many from more prestigious universities than from where Bawumia got his PhD. How many papers has he published in prestigious academic journals? How many often cited books has he written? How many economic theories has he propounded? How many doctoral students has he supervised?
  
  The man is just a politician playing partisan politics - like any other politician irrespective of academic qualification. Stop calling him an intellectual. He is a politician!
