  But the problem may be elsewhere. The register must be correct in the first place before your check technology can be meaningful. And our problem is our inability to register the correct people. We do not have the basis to do that. We do not have a proper register of births and deaths, movements in and out of the country, etc. Simply put, we don't know exactly how many of us there are... We don't have a national registration system! It's the bane of our development status.
  
  I live in a small European democracy which NEVER conducts censuses, never has a period for registration of voters or anybody, etc. They don't do these because at every minute of the day, these records are correct and intact. At election times, every eligible voter gets his/her voter card posted to his known address. You don't have to do anything to get that. It's only if you don't get yours that you ring the authorities to make enquiries. Everything goes well during elections. Nobody complains and people don't even know who the electoral commissioner is. He is almost irrelevant since the system adequately takes care of itself.
  
  Alas, we're far from that level. If even USA cannot conduct proper elections and the Supreme Court must wade in to decide the fate of George Bush, what can you expect from poor Ghana?
  
  Anyway, I've just looked at my Ghana voter card and it shows my age at the time of registering but NOT my date of birth!!! Isn't that strange strange strange!!!
