There is no doubt that President Mahama's decision to help the US resettle the 'Gitmo 2' in Ghana is security threatening and worrying but I don't think the presence of the 'Gitmo 2' has eventually placed Ghana on the radar of Islamic extremists/terrorist groups and that by itself trigger attacks on Ghana.
Actually, there's barely a country in the world not at risk of terrorism be it homegrown terror threat or Islamic Jihadists or Christian extremists. Even the US and UK with their sophisticated surveillance and formidable intelligence networks suffered terrorists attacks on their home soils.
Of course, Ghana is not immune to terrorist attacks and the recent attacks in Burkina Faso and the Ivory Coast should be wake up calls against the terror threat from Islamic extremists. And the return of Ghanaian jihadists returning from Syria must be our grave concern.
The porous nature of Ghana's borders make the country so vulnerable to any possible attack. Islamic jihadists could easily slip through Ghana's borders unnoticed.

My question is why will these people attack a country like Ghana? What will they gain from that?

Serial Loser Akufo-Addo can't even manage his own NPP let alone run Ghana. That's why the people of Ghana will once again hand Serial Loser Akufo-Addo his loser's card come November. Ever since Serial Loser Akufo-Addo became NPP flagbearer, all he's managed to bring into the party is internal chaos, distrust, and violence by NPP members against each other.
President Mahama on the other hand has managed the affairs of the nation well, and for that, the people of Ghana voted overwhelmly for him and his party in the last election, and will do the same come November. The National Security Agencies in Ghana are operating well, unlike Okoampa-Ahoofe's NPP that is now a political party engulfed in chaos and plagued with confusion and a lack of direction.
