We've written several papers on the importance of renewable energy (i.e., SOLAR), as the sure fire solution in the mid- to long-term. In that sense, the latest from Mr. Mahama appear to be just about what the "Doctor" is ordering for Ghana. However, the the goals/targets for solar need to be more aggressive, commercial-scale, so to speak, up to 450MW.
The savings and payback are a no-brainer, with respect to SOLAR!
Then there is bio-mass!
ITEM: That being the case, we do not quite understand what exactly, "The requirement that more thermal generation be quickly added to the system" means. It is a bit nebulous.
If it is natural gas, that would be the right approach for Ghana.
However, if it is coal, as we've heard some people talk irresponsibly about, that would certainly be the wrong road for Kwame Nkrumah's Ghana. The idea is, just as the western economies are trying to kick out coal for all "those reason", Nkrumah's Ghana surely does not need "Obroni Wawu Coal," in 2016 and beyond, not even coal imported from South Africa.
