I share your pain...arriving at your destination without your luggage is not a pleasant experience.
I'd however point out that, the disrespectful treatment you suffered happens across foreign airlines doing business in Africa. In February, we were threatened by this very unpleasant obese lady, with ejection from a British Airways flight to London from Accra for daring to complain about the lack of air-conditioning facilities prior to take off. Her abrupt and disrespectful manner of speaking left a lot to be desired. KLM is even worse; they will seize your duty free items just before you enter the aircraft with the silly excuse that you've exceeded your hand luggage allowance.

Delta Airlines is really one good reason why Ghana Airways should never have been dissolved. Everybody who I know, who has used that airline, talk bitterly of their openly racist attitudes, services and incredible incompetence that makes the shortcomings of Ghana Airways to actually look good by comparison.
Anyway apart from the fact that Turkey is apparently siding with ISIS in the war going on in Syria, which enhances security concerns, I dont really think that the writer of the article has any outstanding good points against the Turkish airlines. All airlines - even including the mighty Lufthansas and Ethiopian airlines do have their bad days and minor quirks which irk passengers from time to time.
If the Turkish airline planes that ply our route are not good enough, then I presume that our aviation authorities should step in and do something about it. Such a lapse can be attributed to the irresponsibility of our authorities. In any case, Passengers are normally given prior information on their tickets and one can therefore decide not to travel on a plane that they may find to be structurally uncomfortable.
I wonder if the writer has ever traveled on a British Airways flight to Ghana before? Perhaps the disrespect they have for African passengers and African routes would have warmed him up to put up with those of the Turkish Airlines.

Virgin airlines to me was the best flight to Ghana in terms of everything you can think of. Our tourism industry needs a boost which will create a very competitive market in order for us to find cheap ticket and direct flights. Our government should do more like it is for the Gambians - very cheap tickets because of their tourism industry being better than ours. we have everything but we have to start to learn how to add value to our stuff.

Again they might not be the best and I agree that most, yes indeed, most Ghanaian passengers are compltely unmanageable. A friend of mine who was travelling on Delta Airlines about two weeks ago from New York to Ghana had this to say "..some Ghanaians are still the same old villagers. One of the guys almost broke the over head door by trying to force stuff a bag which was obviously too big!!! And then caused a scene when the steward told him it was too big..." So how do you expect them to treat you?????

Your delayed luggage isn't the preserve of Turkish airline only, it happens on all airlines from time to time. The airlines assign different planes to different routes as and when passenger numbers change, surely you don't expect them to use a 400 seater plane when there were only 70 passengers. Ghanaians and Africans in general have a hard time with the airlines for a very simple reason, lack of understanding of airline regulations. I have often come across people arguing needlessly with staff and making a fool of themselves simply because passengers failed to read and follow the small prints! My experience with them has been good so far, in fact, I had never seen a chef on a plane until I flew with them.

The services offered were quite okay, the food better than with other airlines, the entertainment also up to standard, the plane arrived on time and even the luggage. Much of what folks expressed regarding the type of treatment meted out to them as Passengers on various flights is true and must be acknowledged as such. However, one thing stands out as threading the whole saga of experiences. And that is a lack of consistency in most of the Airlines, probably, except Virgin Atlantic.
Incidentally, I have always been a fun of Virgin Atlantic, since my only and first ever travel with them, and have been promoting them to others. None of those who took my cue ever had an iota of regret. So, kudos to Virgin Atlantic. The courtesy of the Staff to all Passengers and the basic service in-flight have been spectacularly acceptable. Hardly have I met similar service anywhere else, since.
The problem with Delta was noticed a long time ago, and I wish it did not persist till now. However, we must all be educated on the fact that even locally, within the USA, where Delta resides, its service has often been criticized. It is sad that often we have only a few options to choose from, either financially or time-wise.
We must therefore understand that many factors other than racism, or disrespect for Third World travelers, may be at play, too, in receiving a lousy service from these culpable Airlines. It may be a certain unexpected constraint on the Airline at that particular time of flight. However, if folks identify the same problems persisting for a while, then we have a problem with the policies in place by which the Airline is operating our Airspace.
So, folks we may have to demand a certain minimum flight service with all the Airlines, or tell them we would boycott them. Such basic service should not be necessarily luxurious but decent and offered with due respect.
We should not expect to be treated like Royalties by these Companies. But we must, at least, ensure we receive services that would not leave us crippled or sore or starved or cause us to lose our luggage on board of those Planes. Timely communication of any unforeseen contingency must be offered to us.
I therefore suggest that we seriously impress on our local Officials in the Air Transport Business to require a signed commitment from all the Airlines, as part of their Contracts to do commerce with us, providing those identifiable basic services, other than just flying the Plane from point A to B.
We have the right to demand that of our Government, and if any Airline is not willing to comply, they should not fly our routes.
Again, the most viable long-term option I see is to have a nearly fully Ghanaian-owned Airline with serious goals of providing decent service to Ghanaians.
Hey, in this day and age, we could all start to crowd-fund or crowd-source the capitalization of such a Ghanaian-owned Airline. I understand that the few capable Millionaires among us would rather keep private Jets to show off their wealth than use them to service the needs of the People, even for decent profit.
Our Millionaires hardly want to reinvest in our Economy to help it grow. So, let us the ordinary folks find a new paradigm of owning and operating some the Enterprises we have historically depended mainly or solely on the Government or outsiders for.
We can do it. We must do it. We cannot wait forever to have outsiders bring in their investments to service our needs. We would be crying about their extreme margins of profits as a form of preying upon our poverty. And we cannot trust State Management Enterprises anymore, either.
Maybe, we could borrow the concept of the Mondragon Corporation in Spain to model after. And even if we would not restrict ownership of any such ventures to the workers alone, as in Mondragon, we may be able to structure the ownership in terms that would inspire all stake-holders to the maximum to help make them succeed and offer the best of services to our fellow Citizens, and ourselves.
Long Live Ghana!!!
