Selassie was a feudal king who had many poor Ethiopians under his iron rule. The link with the Jews means he was really not a black African through and through. Selassie's people, the Ahmariya, don't even think they are Africans and look down on the rest of us "real" Africans with pepper-corned hair. How can their leader be the spiritual fountain of Jamaican blacks who are black like Ghana/Nigeria black?

The African slaves that found themselves in Jamaica were from the west coast of Africa - from Senegal along the coast all the way to Congo and Angola. They didn't come from East Africa where Arabs took slaves to Asia. Historically, the black in the West Indies and the Americas have nothing to do with blacks from East Africa. In fact, they don't even look like Ethiopians!

Your title is correct - Jah Rastafari is just a myth.

Bob Marley made great music. I am not a fan of reggae music but it doesn't prevent me from realising the man made great music of lasting value. But all that thing about Haile Selassie is just nonsense... And whether Bob re-converted to Christianity in his final days is also really meaningless.

Ra's Tafari was of mainly of Oromo descent his only Ahmariya connection was thru his maternal grandmother!
Ironically so many West Afrikan ethnics claim they came from the east while at the same time subscribing to balkanization by the West!! At the very time you are speaking ofMakonnen's shortcomings we still hard various forms of slavery and indentured servitude present here in West Africa!!

Whatever slaves were taken to the West Indies from East Africa was a trickle compared to the numbers from the west coast. It doesn't look odd to you that Rastafarians will rather take someone from that trickle than from the majority as their "god".

If Nkrumah had attained his greatness in the 20s and 30s, Rasta man would have rather taken him as their "god". But Nkrumah was no feudal lord. He fought for and won in free and fair elections and did not claim any inheritance as a leader from his blood lineage. So he wouldn't do for these Rastafarians. And they had already taken Selassie and the "Lion of Judah" sounds nice.

Gorgordugor, are you one of those Ewes who think their people are descended from the Jews?

Even Haile Sellasie whom these guys took as their king didn't want that position because he knew he was not what they thought he was.

You are suggesting that somehow Ethiopians in general and Amhara in particular are somehow not Afrikan enuff, at least to be coopted by diaspora blacks to construct their own spiritual system, if you know anything about Rastafarians you know a lot of their symbolic and ritual beliefs just like Candomble Vodou Santeriamwhich are undoubtedly West African based!!

This funny idea that all highland Ethiopians, look like Makonnenn is a fallacy, simple. And have you looked around our Subregion. There are people like the Fulani Wodaabe Kanuri Touboun many of whom strongly resemble the stereo typical highland Ethiopian. Did you see when our Touareg cousin came down from the Sahel in the earl 80's. Inam saying all these groups mentioned include the physical stereotypes called Hamitic Bantu Nilotic GuineaNegro etc.

Some of us choose to live in little boxes imposed on Afrikans by outsiders I simply do not! The problem exist in a macro form intraregional and interregional version and in the micro form "tribalism" which is killing us in Ghana!!

Religions are created to push human beings to act in the ways that are conducive to humanity as a whole, but are hindered by our individual shortsightedness and selfishness!!
If "God" made the universe it follows that "God" is an "energy force" beyond our comprehension!! If that force had any intimate contact with any human or animal, such human or animal would be vaporized in nanoseconds!!
Religion is an ideological system employing irrationality, myths and legend to achieve rational material ends!!!! Do you see the proliferation of so called prophets overseers pastors bishops using the above methodology to systematically fleece their followers to include raping and otherwise making sexual use of their followers!!
