Mahama borrowing to fix Kufuor’s leftover projects - Bagbin

Majority leader Alban Bagbin says the Mahama-led administration has had to borrow a lot because it intends to complete all the uncompleted projects started by the erstwhile Kufuor administration.

According to him, claims by the opposition MPs that the government is over borrowing is hypocritical since they know what the monies are being used for.

The Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu Wednesday raised concerns over the rate of borrowing by the NDC administration. He warned that if the situation continued, international confidence in the country’s debt servicing ability will be eroded.

In a sharp response, however, the Nadoli Kaleo MP said :“They are raising issues about borrowing and projects, I’m saying that these were projects that were initiated and started in 2008, in fact some were even started in 2007 without any budgetary allocation.”

He added: “ This government was compelled to borrow money to pay for those projects."

Bagbin cited the Sofoline Interchange, the Achimota-Ofankor road, the Dansoman road and a host of other projects started by the Kufuor administration to buttress his claims.

He said the NDC government will continue to borrow in order to fix the country’s infrastructural deficit.
