You are equally clueless as the politicians.Ghana"s population is between 25-26 million. A good lecturer must know the current population of Ghana to the closest half a million.

Thank you F. K. Kuma at this time of our era, Ghana should not be dealing with a country like China. South Korea, Japan, Brazil are the countries Ghana has to deal with as the are honest and understand our stand. China has promised Mahama with loan and conditions that does not favour us at any case. Please think well.

There are many by-products in the petroleum industries. We should demand our scientists to come up with feasibility studies towards building more factories to create jobs.Thank you.

You have really hit the nail on the head. Your article is informative and right to every point. Talking of geology, I have a niece from Koforidua who graduated with a BScience in the same field but could get a national service placement in that field. Meanwhile, out of 45 students in her class, 15 of them were foreign students and the remaining 30 were Ghanaians. However, since we don't know any politician to help her, she is staying home whereas those who did the ologies( sociology, psychology and have connections are working in the mining industries. There are so many square pegs in round holes. The engineers in Ghana are like dead beat dads. I really like your article. Well done. In future, if I come on vacation, I will come and look for you. I am from Koforidua. Maybe we can share ideas and see what we can do to help in Koforidua.

What do you expect, with our educational system not focusing much on hands-on experience but memorizing, that would be the end product. Producing zombie-like academics, engineers, scientist, doctors with no clue how to diagnose and solve problems. I remember after high school in Ghana when my uncle sent to the western region to work on his construction company, we had this buffoon of a surveyor, who couldn't accurately pin-point and take measurements of one project in a single day but took this Australian guy basically an hour to complete and came out with the right measurements. Yet this Ghanaian surveyor got bachelors and masters degree and cant complete any project in a given day, yet the Australian guy with some high school diploma, technical education and hands on knowledge will complete 5 projects in any day. A lot of them are walking in Ghana with big titles and flashy cars and no knowledge about their job, pathetic indeed.

I lived at Akuse, Akosomba and finally Tema VRA bungalows and I saw it all. Engineers with big degrees, flashy cars, nice bungalows and good tranings abroad (USA, Canada etc) who simply do dot have a clue how to solve all these electricity problems. What is it with our African culture that we cant figure it out ourselves. This should be a deep question everyone of us should ask ourselves. We seems to excel in foreign countries (myself included) but don't think above and beyond to improve our on continent, the likes of Zimbabwe, Nigeria, South Africa, etc.
We are very bright and smart book-wise, but sucks with innovation. It is our educational system failing us in the long run? Is it that we simply do not have the brains capable of any innovations? LET the debate begin.

It is not the responsibility of Ghanaian Scientists and Engineers to quarantee comfort in sleeping. It is the duty and responsibility of Town Councils to solve sanitation problems concerning mosquitos. The same goes to the Town Planning for not being active in proper plans for buildings. When it comes to Energy Safety,it's up to political leaders to vote money for research and development. If you can remember in the 60s when the then President of United States,Mr J.F.Kennedy wanted American Scientists to engage in Space Exploration. He voted a very huge money to train Scientists to pick up the challenge and in some few years they were able to overtake the Russian counterpart who were leading in space exploration. Please don't attack Scientists and Engineers but we should encourage them and engage them in development issues.Thank you.
