Many drugs are not on the Ghanaian market because they are not in demand. The government must establish 1 big pharmaceutical shop where you can find all drugs. Someone looking for Truvada for prophylaxis couldn't get one after combing round the whole of Ghana.
Everyone with a problem should be able to come up with at least one solution to the problem. No solution as an answer is not acceptable.
Countries train their doctors differently and award different degrees. It is high time we started conferring Doctor of Medicine degrees to MBChB students who have performed the necessary research projects as some countries do.
The current practice where newly inducted doctors called house officers with no experience whatsoever are left to experiment with (attend to) serious medical cases while residents, specialists and consultants are away must be put to a stop immediately. There must be at least one specialist present 24 hours in three shift rotations to supervise them. Our health system as it is presently is not the best. The situation in the countryside and rural communities is even worse.
Do not doubt the wisdom in these words.

Accra, Kumasi, Tamale or my vilage Otwe-b3we-at3?
I think what we need to do is standardize drugs in Ghana so that the same kind of apothecary drug could be found in all corners of Ghana.

The NHIS is failing because it was poorly implemented for political reasons. Even in Almighty USA which has the largest economy cannot afford the kind of insurance of health care we have in Ghana. One premium payment for a life time? To sustain it, patients should be made to make a co pay and or given their prescription form where they can go and buy their own medicine. In some emergencies like Cholera, snakebite, AIDS and TB, the government can help with immediate medication. to prevent spread od a disease or death. If people are making copays, it will be difficult for hospital officials and pharmacy companies to milk Ghana. It has been along known fact that medicines for patients were diverted to pharmacy shops and drug stores. Is this not true?

The NDC does not care about NHIA, they are busy building NDC head office in Accra worth over twenty million dollars.
