Pharmaceutical companies to cut supplies to NHIS hospitals

Patients who hold health insurance cards will soon be denied pharmaceutical services under the national health insurance scheme if pharmaceutical companies carried out a threat to withdraw drug supplies to hospitals operating under the scheme.

At a crunch meeting in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, the pharmaceutical companies said if the National Health Insurance Authority and the Government failed to pay their claims immediately, they will have no option than to stop supplies.

Their action is in protest to the delayed payments, some of which span more than a year.

also learns that the pharmaceutical companies intend filing a case in court against the NHIA to have the law compel the Authority and the Ministry of Finance to pay them their claims.

According to the pharmaceutical companies, their operations are being battered adversely due to lack of funds, mainly due to the delay in paying their claims.
