Honest inquiry into the history of Ananangya/Odumase folks of Kumawu are as follows:
(1) They migrated from Essumja under the leadership of Adofoahyee who had lost the contest for the paramountcy of Essumja to Nana Kwaku Gyebi Kankanko.
(2) That Adofoahyee and some of his supporters including his mother Maame Senifontom left Essumja and camped at Sebedia near Kokofu.
Nana Gyebi sent his State Executioners to bring Adofoahyee and his followers to Essumja to be charged with treason because the later was planning to overthrow Nana Gyebi.
Adofoahyee and his followers heard of this and quickly moved from Sebedia to Adanse Ahensan.
They left Adanse Ahensan and settled at Penimase near Kumasi (originally called Kwamang);
They left Penimase and settled at Abodom;
From Abodom they moved again to Tikrom;
From Tikrom they moved and settled at Abira for about 3 years. At Abira, a member of Adofoahyee's followers called Otwee-Su-Agyae was caught in a sexual act with a young woman bethrothed to one of the sub-chiefs of Abira. Nana Anwoma, the then chief of Abira ordered the beheading of Otwee-Su-Agyae;
Adofoahyee and the rewst of his followers sensed danger and quickly left Abira, passed through Atwea and settled at Dadiease-Tanoso within Apemso Stool lands/ jurisdiction;
(3) A hunter from the group called Annor went to a river to hunt for cormorants. He moved along the river downstream and suddenly found himself at Apemso township. Annor was arrested, tried on the spot and summarily beheaded by orders of Nana Siaw. Meanwhile Annor's people were unaware of the tragedy which had befallen him and awaited for his return. When anyone enquired about him, the invariable reply was, "Annor had gone to the river", literally"Annor-ko-Asu" and that was how the river "Annor-ko-asu" at Kumawu got its name.
(4) Hunters from Adofoahyees group one day espied smoke in a distant place. They cautiously made their way in that direction and to their utmost surprise came to Apemso township. The hunters returned and told Adofoahyee and the rest of the group about what they had seen, a complete township with plasant environment.
(5) Adofoahyee and some of his men were led to Apemso by the hunters and met the then Krontihene of Apemso Nana Adomakopim. Adofoahyee gave detailed account of their movements from Essumja and how they have finally arrived at Apemso outskirts and did not realize the township earlier.They had escaped the wrath of Nana Anwoma of Abira, and were of the Aduana Clan.
Nana Adomakopim led them to the palace of Nana Kofi Siaw, Apemsohene and introduced Aedofoahyee and his group as his (Adomakopim) kinsfolk, since Nana Siaw would not entertain strangers who were literally moving as normads. Secondly, Nana Kofi Siaw had confidence in his Krontihene and for the fact that Adofoahyee sought audience with him through Nana Adomakopim was in accord with customary usage and practice, and nulled any suspicion.
Nana Siaw received them and thence forward a strong bond of friendship developed among them.
(6) Maame Senifontom died at Apemso under the leadership of Nana Aboagye. Adofoahyee borrowed funeral paraphernalia from Nana Aboagye and later used the occasion to stage a coup d'etat against the Apemsohene and his people instead of returning the borrowed items.
The men of Apemso who were ordered by Nana Aboagye to retrieve the items from the grave of Maame Senifontom, because Adofoahyee claimed he had used all the paraphernalia to burry his mother who could have been a queen if she had not follow Adofoahyee.
Nana Aboagye, Apemsohene died of his wounds at Aboofrem where he had gone for herbal medicine.
(7) Adofoahyee and his men killed and maimed The Apemso Royals and crowned themselves as rulers of Apemso.
(8) Nana Adomakopim rebuked Adofoahyee and his group harshly. Nana Adomakopim was stripped off the Krontire title for his harsh criticism ; new king new laws, they say.
(9) The household gods and ancestral spirits of Apemso were outraged by the treasonable act of Adofoahyee and vowed to wreck vengeance by exterminating the entire settler community fron Essumja who were called Abirafo). The spirits called to mind the saying,"YENTENA OBI SERE SO NA YENNSUM NO". TRhe settler group were cursed and they began to die one after another in short intervals. Adofoahyee bacame alarmed, consulted an oracle who revealed to him the curse they were under for stabbingNana Aboagye in the back.
(10) To expiate the abominablecrime Adofoahyee had committed, the spirits demanded that he should sacrifice annually one of his own people as a sacrifice at his papaase residence.The human sacrifice continued until the The British assumed power and abolished human sacrifice. Thereafter bulls were substituted for the sacrifice which has continued until today, THE PAPA FESTIVAL OF KUMAWU.
That, Barima Tweneboa Kodua was the fifth (5th) chief of Kumawu after the overthrow of the Apemso administration, hence NOT the originator of the Kumawu Koduah stool.
Also is a fact that every stool in Asante whether contested or not, the kingmakers are given money as a token for their time and job well executed, hence the adage" WODE AGYAAKWA A, YEN NNGYAE WO KWA" Nana Serwaa Amponsaa, Kumawuhemaa did not commit any crime. Your presentation of drinks and whatever from your contestant for the stool could also be equatted as bribe to influence her, isn't it?
