Many of us have long been advocating for electing our District and Municipal Executives, as a part of the broader push for decentralization of Administrative functions of the Government, instead of having them imposed on us by the President. Yet, we could not have the support of the most eloquent and probably intellectual, to push the idea into our Constitutional review process.
It seems when the NPP was in Power, the idea of decentralization became muted, only to be revitalized when the NDC came to power. My observation is that when the NPP came to Power, it could have led and effected most of the decentralization and worked with the Parliament to take power of appointing our Local Administrative Executives out of the President's hands. That did not happen.
Now that the NDC is in Power, the call for those changes has risen a few decibels, and been coming more from these persuasive folks. If Mahama's NDC leaves the driver's seat and the NPP takes over, I would like to hear these loud voices get even louder, right from the start.
We cannot stop demanding what is right and best for us when our favorite Political Leaders are in Power, only to boom and blast at the others when they ascend to Power, more because we intend to portray these opponents of ours as incompetent.
More often, it is the faulty system that provides the incompetent all the excuses to perpetrate their ineptitude without any motivation to change the status quo.
The argument of the Professor's in this Article is most cogent. But I wish he had begun much earlier to harp on it along with the rest of us.
It is, however, interesting to note how the dear Prof. now terms the Supreme Court as the incompetent Atuguba presided Wood Supreme Court. I wonder if Nana Akufo-Addo had won the case, the Prof. would have found the competence of the Court wanting, regardless of the weight of the evidence submitted.
What is good for the Nation must always be pursued with the same vigor, no matter what Administration is in control.
