Well done man! Our customs have to a large extent constrained us in being objective and truthful to ourselves. Yes, no decent being would relish or gloat at the death of any individual but the truth must stand. PV for all the accolades heaped on him, was very instrumental in overthrowing an elected PNP government led by Dr Limann. PV has ben cited in several corrupts deals over the years and yet people are doing everything to portray him as someone who served mother Ghana selflessly. I beg to differ very strongly but will for now spare the family-any more pain till an appropriate time. Did you hear what JJ said in his tribute?
When Margaret Thatcher died in the UK, some people openly gloated and held parties but I do no think it is right in this instance. However,Ghanaians need to stand up and speak the truth. Don't forget PV has been at the centre of all the 25 years rule by PNDC/NDC rule-what is his selfless legacy? Time will tell.

You wrote that Mr. P.V. Obeng had been a member of PNDC which ruled Ghana for twenty years. During that time why didn't they do something small for our hospital's, emergency services etcetera. You see one thing I have noticed about black people is that we don't LOVE each other. You mentioned UK, have not our pocket politicians lived there before? Don't our pocket politicians know how the emergency services work there?
It is sad Mr. P.V. Obeng has passed away but please we have poor Ghanaians passing away without any notice.

You made a wonderful presentation but one thing still stands out, P.V Obeng being in power for this long really didn't do anything positive to help the whole nation. He only fought for himself because if he did care about the nation, all these emergency services would have been improved and he would have definitely benefited at that time. You only blamed the NDC government for corruption but PV was a part of that team. Ghana in general needs selfless and dedicated leaders. Ghana should not be struggling with these things. I don't want to sound mean but the politicians in Ghana care and fight only for themselves and they will also suffer the consequences when the time comes.

Abeeku,
This is a very interesting piece. Mine, which was not an accident but also a major emergency, happened while at work in London.
I had excellent treatment over a period from world class consultants, nurses, surgeons and others, at an estimated cost of nearly £200,000 completely free!
Atta Mills, Kofi Awonor, and now PV Obeng, all had their chances to improve Ghana's health services, but they all believed that they would always be flown out to South Africa or some other place, for superior treatment, and so did not care a hoot how our medical services fared.
Another "Big Man" in Ghana dying at the back of a taxi? Will any lessons be learned. I remember reading about a hypothetical case in which a wealthy man's child dies on the way to hospital because the Spintex Road is full of lawlessness and choked traffic on any average day.
The purpose of public office is "service to fellow human beings", not popularity and riches for oneself and cronies. Shall we learn any lessons from this particular "tragedy." I will bet my bottom penny that it will be back to the usual "create loot and share" tomorrow!

This Earth My Brother!! As espoused by another coup plotter, who passed on in a rather pathetic manner abroad.
PV, JJ,Kofi Awoonor, the Ahwois, Totobi Quakyi etc.have superintended over poor public services & schools for 26 years, out of Gnana's 57 years of independence, but there is nothing to show for it, except self aggrandisement and trappings of power. How can anyone positively eugolise PV, for all that he stood for; greed, brazen display of opulence and arrogance.
He has been cited in several corrupt deals at home and abroad. The less said about his other side-his morals, the better. PV was for himself and his appendages and numerous girlfriends. The 'cheek in tongue' tributes from other quarters are obvious- not well meant by any stretch of imagination. By their deeds they shall be assessed.
God Bless Ghana.
How does he deserve this

By our moribund culture that has cripple our march toward self emancipation, which has rewarded mediocrity, and pomposity, and worshiping miscreant, and giving underserving accolades to people whose achievements can hardly be measured, what Okuampah has written seems and sound offensive to some people. Deep down I have a hunch, many people feel the same way as Okoampah. Certainly, we all are going to die one way or the other, someday. No matter how we leave this world/die, we are not going to come back: "all die be die". So in the scheme of things who do we applaud and who do we curse after his/her demise? Where do you place PV? Okuampah has give a bit of background of the political history of PV. Looking about the country's development, And this man was in charge for all hisolitical life, then it leaves much to be desired. As the defacto Prime Minister, as the Chief Political Advisor, as head of NDPC, as head of investment Promotion, where did he take Ghana's development? Pothole ridden streets in Tema, where he lived? Massive joblessness ? Dumsor Dumsor? Water shortages? Very very poor schools and health system that cannot be characterized? What he was able to achieve however, is the massive personal wealth and that of his friends and hanger on's. Let's not crucify Okuampah for his seemingly 'uncouth' remarks, but, if we as a nation wants to move forward, then we must begin to think differently now about how we look at people and their way of life. Is it any surprise, how we heap underserving accolades to the departed? Not long ago a know thief and burglar and armrobber was celebrated in the Volta region! "Damrifa Due, PV.". Ghana shall move on.

He was an active politican for over 36 years until this past weekend and now you are blaming other people and leaving out PV. That guy is just as guilty as anyone who is politics. Period.
Other than that I think your piece was flawless.
