The President talks before he thinks and this is unfortunate coming from the first gentleman . People are giving weird excuses that he mentioned Kumasi and not the Ashanti Region but if he had said this in Ho or Yendi, Ewes or Dagombas will feel insulted and rightly so being the indegens of the Region. The President's handlersare not doing a good job at all. The Akans and especially the Asantes are very particular about language nuances and who ever engages them in any discourses must be careful especially in politics

As a true and true Ashanti I don't commend or "not commend" the expression that has gathered so many comments. I think it is a storm in a tea cup. What the president said is said by everybody privately, so he only re-echoed the perception, and perhaps the truth.

Ashantis can take it, that's all I can say. What is wrong with the statement is the discounting of over 6000 votes he "received", which is bigger than some of the so-called bastions of the NDC. Unless he wants to claim that the number was by "foreigners" on Ashanti soil. That could be bad.

But most importantly why does the president think he has done for ungrateful Ashantis? Let him enumerate his projects AS A FUNCTION OF POPULATION. If one Ghanaian anywhere is equal to another Ghanaian anywhere then Ashantis are systematically being discriminated against. You can't equate region with so many people to a small one like Upper East and call it fairness. The marginalization is contributing in no small measure to the dwindling of the national cake. There is something we call "The hen that lays the GOLDEN eggs". Starve it because it is too big, and the whole nations also loses weight. When the national cake gets bigger all benefit. For it to get big the golden egg layers must be fed at least like the smaller hens.

Before Nkrumah, the following schools existed where scholars were being produced: Mfantsipim, St Augustines, Abuakwa State, Prempeh College, Achimota, Accra Academy, Legon, UST, St Monica's Training, Adisco, etc etc. Please therefore do not use this good opportunity to suggest that before Nkrumah there were no scholars in Ghana. People had been qualifying as doctors before Nkrumah was born. Mensah Sarbah and Casely-Hayford were writing and researching law books that are still being used today. Busia was a leading scholar of African chieftaincy, Danquah, Quartey-Papafio etc were all on top of their game. We had dentists, doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, engineers, teachers etc etc. By the early 1900s Ghanaians were studiyng in their droves at Oxford Bristol, LSE, Manchester, Sorbonne, Cambridge, UCL etc

Repeating Nkrumah's name daily and misrepresenting our history will not help the CPP get a single extra vote!

His fucked up supporters are reduced to telling us that the Osibisa band formed because Nkrumah had been overthrown! Just think of this nonsense. The band was formed in 1969 and it was Teddy Osei in London who had to beg his brother Mac Tontoh to leave Ghana and the band he was in and to come over to the UK. No one in Osibisa has ever even mentioned Nkrumah and yet the CPP and their 1% of the vote always talk about this!

Just a few days ago some Akan visitors to this forum claim that NPP and Kufuor did a lot for the people of the Volta Region, but they did not vote for him.
