Go to the western region- around the Sekondi-Takoradi municipality and you would see worst. Maybe you won't find school kids doing brisk businesses filling potholes but the roads are just as bad.

Very sad when one comes to think that oil comes from that region and nationally, we have a government in place with regional ministers who are supposed to be caretakers of all regional infrastructures. A useless bunch of caretakers if you ask me. All they care about is lining their own pockets with their ill-gotten money from bribery and corruption.

I wonder when the military will get fed up with all the rampant corruption and thievery by our officials and take over the reigns of the government, line all these corrupt politicians and officials up and shoot them. Fuck the the western world and their human rights mumbo jumbo. They don't live under these appalling conditions of human existence.

they are machines that crush stone, dump trucks (tippers to haul it) and excavators and drill to break it apart...none is work of children except to study school till 18 years unless going to university and you study till 25 ...

Writing about such issues are right but reading your article and comments given by people show that you all need to brush up on your English before joining a public forum like this. First of all using "am" instead of "I am" shows the writer's level of education, and as for the comments? OMG! its shameful how anybody can put words together to get unnecessary attention!!! I wonder what Ghana will be like in twenty years with these "educated illiterates" coming out of these schools? Does Mahama read these blogs and the responses? That is the answer to the kind of education we are giving to these young ones today. Who is to blame? Be smart people; and vote wisely for leaders who are ready to give accountability and are not afraid to learn from the best.ciao!

He was a stickler for the correct spelling of words and their places in the construction of a sentence.

As a matter of fact, he was the best teacher ever and the best thing that ever happened to me, education wise.
Even the lecturers I met later in my university days couldn't touch this guy with a ten foot pole.
I wasn't the only one who benefitted from his teaching. About 75% of my classmates gained entries into all three universities in Ghana (then) to persue various courses.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that he gave us a good grasp of the english language that it didn't matter what courses(engineering, medicine etc) we took in the universities, we all excelled.
These days, teachers at the formative levels of students' years are so worried about how they are going to put food on the table for teir families that they go into the classrooms not fully prepared, let alone devote enough time for their students to excell.

The teacher has so much on his/her mind wondering when the next pay cheque will be coming.
The past and current governments for the last 20 yearst have made better education such a low priority that our colleges and universities are churning out semi-literate graduates.

So it's no wonder you see all kinds of english language levels in this forum. Sad to say, but I don't think we have to wait another 20 years before we start seeing the "educated literates". They are already in our midst. They are here in our midst as politicians, teachers, engineers, professors.... Do you see where I'm going with this? Or else how could Ghana have ended up with these political clowns running our country right now? We voted them into power to mess up country so how can we call ourselves "educated"
