Yours Sincerely was impatiently waiting for Kofi to come out with such a brilliant and unbiased commentary on the case widely and severally referred to as "Vickygate" or "Vickyleak". The more one reads and grasps the presentation of facts, assumptions, and subsequent analysis and drawing of inferences and plausible (read permissible) conclusions is so candid, a rare commodity in our press. What a joy to have such a well-meaning, humble -he keeps reminding us he is no lawyer, but we all know his reasoning surpasses those of several members of the bar- public intellectual in this crucial task of ensuring that good governance is not reduced to mere rhetoric. The call is on the rest of us -my humble self included- to let an informed discussion follow. Bravo, Kofi!

ghanaman, this is one of four articles that were mistakenly not published by Ghanaweb over the last four weeks. I contacted Ghanaweb yesterday and received an apology and an assurance that all the four will all be published. One was published yesterday evening and this is the second one. Two more to come, meanwhile I will be sending a fresh article on the reported ghost workers at Korle Bu Hospital today. Thanks for your positive comments.

This victoria hammah affair is of major concern , let us not forget even in America president Nixon was forced to resign or face impeachment for much much less as all he did was eavesdrop. here pepeni has confirmed he was able to bribe and therefore tamper with the justice system. any country which has citizens above the law is doomed to failure. the seriousness of this matter makes me wonder how cowardly or profoundly corrupt are most of our institutions such as all the political parties , the police , army and judiciary. pepeni should be made to account and be punished . God has made us to know what kind of a scoundrel and rouge this pepeni is by making his secrets slowly know to all of us . first he instigates the murder of his Akan king mills , organizes the cover up and rigs the elections and seals it by bribing the judges. today the govt is not functioning and we are going backwards , no more serious investors coming only those who wish to exploit and rape the wealth of the nation . in the ministries and govt institutions nobody is patriotically serving the nation as all are now afraid to act lest some pepeni or ayigbe decides they want that position or destroy the work. the moral fiber of society is seriously challenged as it is now the norm to be corrupt and steal . ministers are in charge of sectors they have no clue about so cant give direction , an account at finance , a secretary at transport, a schoolboy with nothing in his head at trade and industry , and a pepeni who who never saw the sea before he was 40 at fisheries , incompetence galore and they run around accusing and blaming the innocent for their own non performance and inaction . hopeless fools

Wasam wa. Pls let me tell you in case you don't know what is happening in Ghana. All our leaders from Asantehene, supreme courts judges, priests and pastors and politicians including NPP are corrupt and bogus. Whatever they do is just to throw dust on the eyes of the masses. They have nothing to offer. Unless we fight them with blood for blood, killing millions of people and revolutionalise our mind, nothing good will happen in Ghana.

First it was Asantehene, now the minister for gender and whatever. Even, what is the essence of that ministry. There is no smoke without fire, they say. Surely, more people were involved in this bribery scandal than that minister. Investigation should start from Asantehene and I believe a lot revelation will follow. By the way what are the function of police institution. Is it not to protect the public? Why should they wait to be directed by that corrupt govt before they start to arrest Asantehene, that minister for gender and husband and Hammah for investigation and prosecution?

Kofi, it's a shame it's taken ghanaweb so long to publish this article. However in it you raise a number of thought-provoking issues and I share your concerns about the way government seems to be running and the percetion it gives.
Whilst I believe the utterances of Ms Hammah merited her quick dismissal and some of the content need further exploration, I would rather suggest an 'internal' as opposed to a major public inquiry which will only add to government waste. My reasons are that this is an individual who 'liked to talk big' although she was indeed 'small' as a politician. She also mistakingly and naively brought her 'family business' into the work place and was in my view a very weak minister of state.
As to the roles of First and Second Ladies (i.e. the wives of the president and his vice), I believe there is scope for them to talk on 'pet subjects' e.g. health, education, women's emancipation/rights, etc. However what is WRONG is the idea that these non-executive and non-government appointed individuals CAN make policy announcements or propagate the government's message. That is going beyond their duties and an 'over-stepping' of the mark as far as I am concerned.
Wives of our leaders have a legitimate right to talk passionately about key issues, but they must desist from any political or partisan speeches or statements that at best bring with them confusion and at worst are tantamount ot the ursurping the powers of sector government ministries like education and health.
On another note, it is pleasing to see the president finally making some bold statements about judgment debts and GYEEDA/SADA, and asking for those culpable to be dealt with. I still think his statement to the Civil rights organisations that visited the Fleag Staff House this week was still rather feeble, and I am yet to be convinced.
Until real actions both to retrieve state monies, and successful prosecutions of those found to have cost the state undue losses occurs, I will still deem the president's words and delcarations unfulfilled aspirations. That I'm afriad will not be good enough as far as I am concerned.
The president must be seen to be leading and on top of his game and his government and party all the time. I for one will continue to drive home this point.

I will advise Kofi Atta, not to buy into the expected hype pro NPP media are given to this plain gossip. After they made noise about woyome, free SHS, Afari Gyan and so forth, ask them how things turned out?
