What the clown,Dr Aubynn means by "Ghana is no longer attractive to investors" is that the country is no longer easy to rip of or shamelessly exploit.

The author only managed to convey that he is several degrees worse than each and all of the ill characterization he ascribed to Dr Aubynn.

You choose to remain anonymous and yet question an intellectual and fairly mild critique of a company mouth piece; that's just peachy. The accepted notion that fools, liars and cheat should not be called out because of political correctness is doing a number on developing nations as the raiders of our minerals, natural and human resources laugh all the way to the bank is no longer acceptable to anyone. You need to grow some balls and call a thief a thief.

I am surprised that the state owned Daily Graphic did not publish this rejoinder. Dr Aubynn is obviously playing the tunes of his pay masters (foreign investors) at the behest of Ghana. This is typical of the Ghanaian as many would sell their own country to foreigners for pittance.
It is a fact that Ghana can allow corporate bodies including foreign investors to pay low corporation taxes because of the "big cow" (cow farmers) that the state can milk for free. The day that cow's milk dries up, no one knows what will replace the big cow. Dr Aubynn and the Daily Graphic should bow down their heads in shame.
Kasaprensa, these foreign mining companies are taking Ghanaian workers for a ride. They cannot and they dare not do the same in their own countries because labour laws in those countries would not allow them to lay off workers whenever they wish to, just because gold prices on the world market is low. Other factor such as production cost and profitability would be taken into consideration before a company can lay off workers. They will have have to give them redundancy pay and sometimes that can be more expensive than keeping them on rather than lay them off.

The "Big Cow" is already dying! My own family's cocoa farms which our ancestors cultivated some 90 years ago are gradually being left to die off. The men and women who used to look after them are now too old care for the farms. The younger men and women think there are not enough rewards for the effort that has to be put in the care of the farms.
I understand a similar thing is happening in other parts of the country, to the extent that the average age of the cocoa farmer in Ghana is now around 55.
Unfortunately, while cocoa is a virtual renewable resource, oil and gold are NOT. The nation will wake up one day to find that the big cow that pays about 80% tax is dead!
Meanwhile, the mining companies are destroying arable farmlands, important water bodies and poisoning the whole countryside, as Lawrence rightly puts it.

There is sense in the Article if you are patriotic. what is wrong with the name calling if he is so cheap to his soul? I side with the author and his patriotism is welcome. Every ghanaian has to do their part to save this nation. what happens to the national anthem we sung from our primary to the university? Does it sink in our heart? The author has our National anthem at heart and god reward him for that. Ghana must enact Law encouraging people of integrity to take up its challenges every facet of the nation to salvage it from mischievous citizens and to bring discipline, probity and accountability and good governance. A good state is one that is peopled by good men "Hobbe"s.

I am really surprised that the author calls himself a retired lecturer; I wonder what moral values he had imparted to his students over the years. Instead of him attacking the "issue" Tony puts across, he, to a large extent, attacked the person, and thus made no sense in his rejoinder. Lawrence used his mathematical expertise to attempt to rebut Tony's assertions but forgot that math doesn’t make complete sense without interpretations. Though Tony mentioned some figures in his publication, he did not, in my opinion, use the figures as a justification to the subject under discussion (i.e. “Ghana Now Unattractive to Investors”), as there was no correlation between the figures and the warning he sounded. Readers should be reminded that Tony works directly with the industry and thus may have additional investment information that Lawrence may not be privy to. For instance, Tony may have information regarding investors who might have declined, or expressed disinterest, to invest in Ghana’s mining industry because of the sector’s relatively high tax regime. For me, the publication is not propaganda to ask or force government to reduce mining tax. It is not wrong for an employee to be loyal to his/her employer but that doesn’t mean selling one’s conscience to perpetuate a bad thing. If Lawrence thinks that he did no such thing in his lecturing career, why should he assume that for Tony? As a patriot, Tony did a good job by giving indication to both Government and the public that our tax system is a threat to mining investment, a sector Ghana heavily relies upon to sustain its economy. Patriotism could be measured from different angles, and one of them is for a patriot to alert his/her fellow countrymen/women or Government about a potential threat to the Nation (be it security or investment). One can analyze Tony’s effort from this angle, and this is the way I see his assertion or publication. Therefore no analytical framework (be it mathematics or otherwise) should be applauded for being the most truthful. Mathematicians and Engineers are not omniscient, as Lawrence claims in his rejoinder to be. Being a mining Engineer may not make Lawrence expert in the mining investment space (perhaps he may be good at extracting rocks from pits). Watch your tongue Lawrence, and please respect people for their good standing, even if you disagree with their opinions. A lecturer must teach and impart high moral values to society, not serve as a bad example. Who also knows the motives behind your rejoinder; on the surface some readers think you are a patriot. But behind the surface no one can tell.
