To those of your generation who don't know, this man lived by the sword and therefore died by the sword! he was full of hatred in his heart for Ashantis and Akans in general and together with the rest of the Dzulakofe mafia (Kojo Tsikata, Tatsu Tsikata and the rest) masterminded the killing of prominent Ashantis like Gen. Afrifa etc. It's the long arm of God's justice that has taken him away. Look at where he fell; far away from home. We shed no tears for a quintinessential tribalist like Kofi Awoonor!

When they are challenged to produce what exactly Awoonor wrote to incur their venomous bile, they skulk away. That has been the case since the 1990s when this issue first cropped up in cyberspace. It was only recently that someone posted the so-called "offending" portions of his book, The Ghana Revolution," on SIL and most people were surprised and started asking whether that was all he wrote. Some were even shocked by the deprecating words in which he described both Kotoka and Harlley, assuming that a tagged "Ewe tribalist" should be praising those two misguided characters who let out the evil genie Nkrumah had bottled up in the form of the Matemeho supremacists, simply cos they are "Ewe heroes," eh? They asked if he was not right after all, judging from all the anti-Ewe diatribes, demonisation and vilification that preceded the 1969 General Elections, followed by Apollo 586? Now his accusers on SIL on the retreat, having been exposed as ignorant fools who have not even read the book themselves!

I read Awoonor's book and the one he specially devoted to Asantes and Ewes as a follow up to the Ghana Revolution. If he were an Akan hater, Asantes in particular, then it should have come clear in that 2nd book. But since he was just full of praises for the Asantes, no Asante or Akan ever mention that book! Or are they bloody ignorant of its existence? The late Dr Francis Appiah, the grandson of Baffour Akoto of the NLM, actually
copies of the two books for me. Luckily, Francis was an educated man unlike his kinsfolk, the only objection we have to Awoonor's analysis of the contest for power in Ghana was that he kept it "Chazan-like" as an ethnic imbroglio b/n Ewes on the one hand and Akans/Asantes on the other; the level which he claimed, in his words, was "reducing" it into "simple terms" by the opponents to the Ewes. He didn't dwell very much on the complex picture he said it was, focusing more on the persecution and hounding of Ewes particularly by Busia and his PP and the fall outs into the NRC era, which eventually led to his own imprisonment. But that is not enough to draw all the tantrums and false claims which some evil and dubious Akans, particularly some foolish and ignorant Asantes have been making against him! They didn't even read the book; only hearsay!

As for the accusation of being an Ewe first, I had tackled that on SIL, just as DAWU too. For heaven's sake: the man was born in 1935 when there was no Ghana! In fact, I was also an Ewe first before before Ghana was born. Asantes were not even members of the Gold Coast colony until 1946 when the Burns Const. incorporated! So they could not even claim to be Gold Coasters before 1946! And most Ewes didn't want to be part of the emerging Ghana in 1956.

You ignorant evil bastards should leave Awoonor alone to rest in peace. He was a warrior and died a warrior's death. He prepared for his death, and a few days before his untimely death, told an audience in Nairobi that he wasn't afraid of death!

He lived his life and it was such a large life none of you sods can ever dream of achieving one hundredth of it! His memory shall ever live on in his own words long after your bones are rotten.

The middle name speaks for itself "ru". And the first is "Je". Putting it together, we get ;Jesus_rule_salem. or Jew_rule_salem, where Abraham/Isaac/jacob was not a jew but hebrew. Jesus Christ was a jew. Jews comes under Moses.

We are reading from a book which was originated and inspired by the Master Author the Lord God, who is Jesus Christ. Some of those who are quoting and learning from this book call bible are wearing the titles of the master author. What is that? plagerism or blaspheming. Let a terrorist or terrorists go about perpetrating terrorist acts in Ghana and be caught and you will see the full force of the law. The fact that in the past some soldiers (including airforce personnel) unleashed terrorist acts on Ghana and covered themselves in the so-called transitional provisions does not mean we have no means of dealing with such terrorist acts.

Hello,
The word or verb “constitutionalize” means “to provide with or make subject to a constitution.” It means that “constitution” and “constitutionalize” are not necessarily the same. In fact, they are not the same. It merely means you “make a law or legal provision” in conjunction or consultations with the authority or supremacy of a national constitution.
A national constitution is the supreme law of the land and every other “legal” jurisdiction is interpreted or subject to its authority or power. Therefore, I used the verb or word “constitutionalize” in that context. Again legal provisions which seek or have constitutional sanction have more power of execution than otherwise.
This explains why I want the definition and codification of “terrorism” to be addressed in relations to our constitution. Of course I am not a constitutional lawyer or legal expert. A better or knowledgeable lawyer can explain it better than I. Besides, I used the word or verb in a more general sense. Remember I also used “legislate.” In the subsequent installments you shall see more synonyms. I avoid using “constitutionalize.” Finally, I don’t think our present criminal code accommodates the seriousness and complexity of terrorism.
For instance, how does our present criminal code handles someone, a visitor or tourist, say, who is in the country taking friendly pictures of tourist sites in Ghana to show friends back home in America (though this person maybe a terrorist taking pictures of sites to be later bombed)? As you can see, it’s more complex than you think.
Finally, no country passes laws without subjecting to its national constitution. There may be frictions and contradictions, etc. The recent petition at the Supreme Court and PNC’s Bernard Mornah Challenges C.1. 74 are examples. You can also read further about the US Constitution and the Patriot Act.

I have you looked at the United Nations' laws and the history of "terrorism" to understand that our constitution does not adequately address the complexity of terrrorism. Even our constitution didn't capture "everthing" ragarding the petition case.

The "treasons laws" are as uncomplicated as you can get. They don't address the complexity of terrorism.

I find the AU definition to expansive though, and thus unacceptable though.

Only the need to xcheck an error in the verse of the Qur'an from a source I quoted has kept its release. Been combing the Qur'an to correct that, as the correction I made in my original was lost some years back, thanks to some uneducated Africans who borrowed it in the aftermath of 9/11.

Our educational system must be forced (and our teachers encouraged) to train our children to read so that we can do away with ignorance and ethnic pettiness. For me, I hardly look at ethnicity when I am evaluating the contributions an individual has made to human civilizations.
And when I had thoroughly examined the corpus of Prof. Kofi Awoonor’s work, I saw genius, brilliance, perseverance, masterwork, humility, foresight, nationalism, and dignity. I didn’t see “tribalism,” a Eurocentric word I hate to use. In fact, most people who “ignorantly” criticize the late Prof. Kofi Awoonor have not read.
When I examined his work, I did not look at him from the view point of ethnicity, as a Ewe. I did so from the point of view of him as a Ghanaian, African, and Pan-Africanist. In fact, there’s nothing, no evidence, in his corpus of to suggest he was an ethnocentric. He fought as ferociously for Ghana as he fought for Black South Africa. Can we even say the same thing of Mandela? Moreover, I find nothing wrong in the claim that “he was Ewe first before Ghanaian.” In fact, that statement is harmless. Most of us put are our “ethnicities” first before Ghana. It’s nature. It’s also close in natural philosophy to what sociologists call “homogamy” or “Bossard’s Law.” Most of us are latent (unconscious) ethnocentrists and we’re not even aware of it. I am 100% Akan but I don’t make or choose friends based on ethnicity. I make friends based on their humanity, personality, and relative goodness. My first girlfriend was a Ewe. She was one of the most beautiful and intelligent girls I ever dated. No part of her beautiful body told anyone she was Ewe, Asante, Ga, Hausa, Nzema, Ethiopian, Akyem, or Zulu!
Whether we like it or not, Prof. Kofi Awoonor was one of the greatest scholars in the world to come from Ghana. Ironically, the world didn’t see him as a Ewe. Instead it saw him as a Ghanaian, an African, a Pan-Africanist, and a human being. In fact, I have never looked at Adu Boahen’s work from the point of view of ethnicity, unless, of course, it’s about “scientific” or “sociological” ethnic history. Prof. Kofi Awoonor transcended ethnic pettiness. But his shameless critics are trapped in it. In the end he died an African, a Pan-Africanist. Please leave the great intellectual to rest in peace.
Rather than spent time criticizing him for what he obviously wasn’t, let us use that time to outdo what he did in life, that is, writing more poetry and books than he did. Indeed, he may have accomplished more in life, intellectually and socially, than most individuals in our families.
Finally, the harsh reality of American racism has taught me never the discriminate against my own kind, whether Ewe, Ga, Dagomba, Luo, Fante, Asante, Ga-Adamgbe, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Oromo, Zulu, Wolof, Kikuyu, etc. Why can’t we all do the same?
Ethnic pettiness won’t get us anywhere. Let’s learn to love and appreciate one another.
