Regarding the consulate staff in both New York and Washington DC they are worthless. I had a similar experience but my employers paid the penalty as it was a business trip. Next time pay a service provider to handle your visa. I do not know what they offer them or may be they are white. All the best.

I tell you, the phrase 'same-same' can be said to be applicable to all our foreign missions abroad! Courtesy has never been part of their vocabulary. This sad state of affairs has even gotten worse since the wards and individuals with close connections to politicians back home have been given postings abroad! I know of individuals who are supposed to be 'career diplomats, but refused to return home for re-posting when the govt was changed. Many of these characters(Embassy Staff) openly identify with particular associations, groups, or persons, and unless you had contacts with these go-betweens,you were treated like 'dirt'!

You seem to be writing from the NY consulate or from one of the irresponsible consulates. Take a look on one of the visa application forms, number 5 (b) where a ticket number is required. So how possibly can one get a visa from a Ghana consulate if a ticket number is requested before a visa is issued?. Tell you what, there is no other side to the story, except lies from the other side, of course. Just check the chronology of events in the post and the US website. How can a visa approved on March 13th be kept until the 19th? Getting you passport renewed on time is quite different from an approved visa not being mailed by a staff lying that she had given it to the post.

Most Ghanaians back home and in our foreign missions abroad are a total failure and disgrace when it comes to executing duties assigned to them with diligence. They're infact a nuisance, customer-service unfriendly and above all rude to their own citizens.
We the citizenry deserved to be treated good and demand the utmost best services from these obnoxious state officials and their cohorts!

Some ex-Ghanaians do really have nerves. When Ghanaian citizens attempt to obtain visa to visit family outside Ghana it take months if not years. Former Ghanaians in the Diaspora who are responsible do take the process of obtaining Ghana visa seriously and do engage the process some 30 days prior to a possible departure date. It is unfortunate that Ghanaians with their acquired citizenship from other nations presume someone has to be going goo-goo gaga because of their non Ghanaian citizenship and passport. In the age of terrorism, do not expect Ghana’s embassy to play fast and loose with the process so you and others could write to lambast the embassies if something went wrong because of negligence or carelessness. If you had an ounce of respect for your own motherland you could not have assumed your posture and write to shame the process. Get over yourself.

You're being very naive and childish with your attributive response. What the US embassy or consulate and for that matter any foreign consulate in Ghana, does have nothing whatsoever to do with ordinary citizens of their respective countries. Therefore, your argument that it takes months to get a visa to visit family members in the diaspora is neither here nor there. The issue is, why did the lady withhold the duly approved visa since the 13th of March and lied to the guy that she had mailed it as at March 19th, even though she knew she was lying about it? Please, channel whatever grievances you may have with foreign consulates on visa issues with those consulates and leave ordinary citiznes out of this shameful and irresponsible acts of ommission and commission by Ghanaian consulate staff.

I believe this thing has happened to you before if my memory serves me right.
Personally, I can't vouch for any of the workers at the consulate or embassy because their attitude sink. I had not gone through such, but anytime I go there for visa, I thank my God for throwing away that stupid passport. It always hurt me when I have to go to Ghana embassy to deal with the clueless and lazy, no-good for nothing people at the embassies or the the consulate. Unfortunately, like you said, nothing is being done by any of the party because it is time to send their freeloaders to these places. I asked, why can't they employ people from those countries and instead had to bring people from outside.
I was at this consulate talking to the receptionist and she was busy trying to call Ghana or somewhere. When I changed the countenance of my face and looked straight into her eyes with fury, she came back and asked "how may I help you?" I told her it was not right to leave me standing there while she tries to call a friend or family member at working hours. She asked me how did I know the person she was a family member or friend. I then told her if it was for a business purpose, she would not have used a calling card. Then she started talking .."mo Ghanafuor..." I then cut in and told her to zip it and serve me and learn how to work in ADVANCED COUNTRY, since here is NOT GHANA.
Kofi, as you said somewhere, a friend left for Ghana without getting his VISA. How is that possible? Can you please throw more light on that...may be I might have to do that in the future when I get into trouble with these people. I think if this guy knew that, he would have done that and pay the penalty in Ghana, instead of paying over 1000 dollars to buy another ticket.
Please, talk to me

Nyansasem is right; I had a very horrendous ordeal at the Ghana's consulate in D.C. last year when I had to send my uncle's body to Ghana for burial. A visa I had applied for for almost one month was not coming so I called them a week before my departure asking them not to mail it because I was prepared to go pick it up since it may be delayed by the post.
Amazingly, nobody picked any of the calls I made (about 8 numbers). I posting pieceson Ghanaweb's SIL asking anytime I called and they didn't pick up, asking them to kindly pick up the phone calls (and they read whatever we post here). Surprisingly, someone would pick up as soon as I posted on SIL. One staff promised to call back after I had explained the situation to her and that was it! She never called back until the eve of my departure. She told me to pick up my visa the next day.
Meanwhile a funeral home was supposed to meet me at the airport by 4pm on that day with the body. I rushed to D.C. early the next morning, making the over 70 mile-journey, with the hope of picking up my visa but your quess could be as good as imagined. The guy at the counter told me my visa was with his boss who was at a meeting and wanted to see me personally so I should wait. I waited until 11.15 am and got agitated so I told the guy I needed my passport so he should call his boss for me. The boss came and asked me why I called all the phones in the office and I asked what was the purpose of the phones? We entered his office and I saw my passport on his desk so I quickly reached for it and realized that the visa had been issued for almost 2 weeks but they decided to delay it for whatever reason only known to them. These are the reckless, irresponsible and ignorant people we have representing Ghana. Ironically, they don't do that to non-Ghanaians but take and treat us, Ghanaian borns, like trash.
A friend was telling me he had just become a US citizen in 2004 and applied for Ghana visa to visit his family. The visa had not arrived on the day of his departure even though they had assured him that it was in mail a week earlier. He had no option but to leave and explain his issue to JFK officials who asked for his US citizenship certificate, subsequent to which he was allowed to proceed with his old Ghana passport. The US passport with the Ghana visa in it was mailed to him in Ghana by his wife two weeks after his departure and had his arrival stamped by the Ghana immigration after paying a fee.
I can hardly fathom why some Ghanaians who get to such positions become so arrogant and inhumane towards fellow Ghanaians. They engage in such irresponsible acts in Ghana and send it abroad; is it because of ignorance or lack of proper upbringing?

I believe after reading your frustration here, I decided to go the consulate myself rather than sending it to them and that was why I remember your case.
Thanks. Because of going through this frustration, I have been entertaining the idea of getting a Ghanaian passport so that I don't have to worry myself of getting a visa, but then I have also heard horrible stories of renewing or getting a New passport from the embassy.
Here, under NDC 1, there was a doctor who became the consulate for free was using his office. The place was accessible to all with free parking lot. The NPP removed him and brought their own consulate from home with staff members. First they went to rent a place where you needed to pay extra fare by public transport to that area. When the people complained, they came to the metro Area where you can't get any parking. You need to use public transport, no matter where you live to get there. And the NDC had followed the same nonsense.
The problem is not with NDC or NPP; it is with the foreign office, that found it necessary to milk Ghana dry and take advantage of being in foreign country with their kids for jobs that high school children here will do for the minimum wage. Why should a country that begs for 5 million dollars keep sending people from Ghana to these places to work and pay them handsomely and yet, can't understand the importance of customer service?
And that silly part of section 5(b) where you need to put your flight number or ticket number before applying for visa. If these idiots have sat down and think twice about it, they probably would make more money from while making it easier on us. Just allow people to apply and give them deadline of a month to travel. If they don't travel during that time, definitely they would come back and re-apply and pay for it. It also allows the citizens to take his or her time to search for better deal.
Again, thank you.
