T B Joshua, the Nigerian conman and sakawa prophet has now packaged his " new improved anointing water " for people to buy, and has now released it to the Ghanaian market. But have Ghanaians not learnt their lessons ? This water has already claimed the lives of four Ghanaians and if this is not enough warning, then I am sorry for all those Ghanaians who would give their money to this Nigerian 419 prophet, as he makes more money at the expense of poor people.

The question to ask is, " Has T B Joshua eliminated poverty in Nigeria ? " What about all the sicknesses and diseases in Nigeria ? What about armed robbery ? What about Nigerian 419 scammers ? What about Boko Haram ? Why doesn't TBJ solve their problems in Nigeria before telling Ghanaians that this bogus water would solve their problems ?

Remember that John Atta Mills was the Chief Consumer of this fake water. He drank gallons of them, which were sent to him by special courier or through diplomatic bag. It was carefully packaged with all the worthless " anointing " of T B Joshua, and not surprisingly Atta Mills died. Is it any wonder when people say T B Joshua killed Atta Mills ? Because TBJ deceived Atta Mills, causing him to believe that this worthless water could heal him. The professor and president himself was deceived, so what do ordinary Ghanaians think this water could do for them ?

Are Ghanaians so gullible ? How long would my people allow this false prophet to deceive them ? T B Joshua is no different from many fake pastors and prophets in Ghana. They are all interested in the money and are fleecing poor people to make themselves rich. The big difference is that T B Joshua has been able to manipulate people who are even more educated and intelligent than himself, because he is very deceitful. Another thing, T B Joshua is expert at giving bribes. He gives bribes to people to " project " him. He is a manipulator of miracles and fake testimonies, all geared towards " projecting " his name. Further, he has Emmanuel TV, where everything is choreographed to make him look good in the eyes of gullible and ignorant people.

Jesus prophesied that in these latter days there will be many false prophets who will deceive many people and it is happening before our eyes. But why would you allow yourself to be deceived unless you don't take heed ? Even if you have no discernment, and even if you don't know the Bible, can't you see things for yourself ? Or are you blind ?

Tell T B Joshua to take his worthless water to Nigeria where it belongs. A word to the wise is enough !

Sometimes I wonder if Jesus was walking the land of Jerusalem today if he would be on TV. Would CNN, Al-Jazeera, BBC and the other popular networks broadcast his ministry and miracles live? Would he be like Rev. Benny Hinn, donning a $50,000 Rolex watch or like Prophet T. B. Joshua, with a flashy Nollywood smile and a cool $20 million in the bank? Would the savior of mankind, live in a sprawling 15-bedroom mansion? Would Jesus ride to miracle healing crusades in his own private Jet with all the pomp and showmanship?

I have no doubt millions of eyes would be glued to TV sets as he performed the miracle of feeding 5,000 hungry mouths with only five loaves of bread. Would he prophesy the results of soccer matches and the death of presidents? What would he say about modern prophets like Jesus One Touch? Would he silently ignore them or lash out with the flash of a whip and the sharpness of rebuke?

All humans want to know the unknown, or even the unknowable. We are wired by God to want to know what tomorrow holds. It is probably why we are so fascinated by those who claim to know the future or who claim to possess the gift of prophecy. At the birth of 2013, one of Africa’s popular ‘men of God’, the Nigerian Prophet T. B. Joshua issued his prophecy for the New Year, as usual. My childhood friend, Fiifi, who follows and hangs on to every word the Yoruba miracle worker says, told me about the prophecies. I decided to check them out. Fiifi’s passion was too strong to ignore.

T. B. Joshua prophesied that “many great, famous, rich men and politicians will become helpless and in need of help in matters of sickness, disease, finances and death”. I looked at Fiifi in amazement, as to why he believed this was a prophecy. This is not a prophecy but a generalized statement. There are thousands of famous and great men in the world, so naturally some would get into trouble. Every week some famous person dies or gets into trouble around the world. In the USA alone, for instance, some star or famous person gets into trouble almost every day. If I say there is going to be a storm in the USA that is going to cause destruction this year, it is not a prophecy. It is a simple geographical fact.

Psychics and con artists use these tricks all the time. They tell you there is a man in your family named Mensah trying to harm you spiritually. Of course, they know almost everybody in Ghana has a Mensah in their family or knows one who is close. Do people believe these fake prophets because they desperately want a miracle in their life so badly that a fake miracle is better than no miracle? Well, a fake miracle is no miracle. A fake miracle is like the ostrich solution to problems, it is the alcoholic’s solution to problems. Once you are drunk, the problem disappears. However, the problem reappears when the drunken stupor fades off. This is not a solution, it is denial and lying to oneself.

T. B. Joshua’s other prophecy tickled me blue. He said, “Those in the foodstuff business will have a field day this year. Farming and agriculture will be the order of the day and will help greatly to be the source of solution this year. People engaged in it will be greatly blessed,” Why would anyone consider this a prophecy? Is this over-baked, redundant, recycled financial advice or what? Last year a cargo plane crashed in Accra, the Melcolm building collapsed but Joshua did not see it to warn us. What is the purpose of these ‘prophesies’ if it serves no purpose and helps nobody? Where is the next Tsunami going to be? That’s what we want to know, so we can be ready.

Can Temitope Joshua prophesy the Boston bombing next time before it happens, rather than ‘predicting’ it after it has happened? If he had prophesied the Boston Marathon bombing, his name would be on every major network in the world. Oprah, CNN, NBC,New York Times and all the big networks would be at his door begging for an interview. He did not prophesy the Boston bombing. That is the fact that the whole world knows except the gullible followers of Joshua in Ghana and Nigeria.

People like TB Joshua and their fake miracles thrive in non-questioning, semi-literate societies, where superstition is rife even among the educated. Why would the great omnipotent Jehovah reveal such useless prophecies? These prophecies are definitely not from God. They are from the demented mind of one who seeks fame and money and know how to manipulate a society of gullible zombies.

Joshua did not prophesy the Melcolm building collapsing which would have saved many lives. Neither did he prophesy the crashing of a cargo plane into a bus at Kotoka Airport. When Accra Sports stadium collapsed, he did not see it. Even when President Mills was stricken with cancer and on the verge of death, he did not see it. When a tsunami devastated Japan, Joshua did not see it. God does not show Joshua revelations that would save lives. God only reveals soccer scores, election results and mushed-up general statements that help no one. Attributing these cheap ‘revelations’ to God is blasphemy. Yahweh, the creator of the universe, with billions of stars and galaxies, cannot do better than giving useless financial advice?

Joseph in the Bible interpreted dreams that averted a famine and saved the lives of millions of people. Moses saved many Israelites from the plagues that devastated Pharoah, because his predictions came true and were time specific.

How would such prophesies be received in educated countries like Germany, Canada or Japan? Nobody in any developed, educated world of critically thinking people would see Balogun Joshua’s statement as prophecies. However, among many Africans, these are words from the Almighty Yahweh himself. Joshua is sleek, shrewd and a good stage magician, who can fool millions of gullible, desperate Africans. He has amassed wealth to the tune of $20 million. Needless, to say, he has tricked his way into great wealth. Man can be fooled, but the most sophisticated sakawa, 419 tactics cannot trick God. Just like Obinim, Jesus One Touch, Bishop Eddie Long and all the many false prophets had come crashing down, time would show that Bishop Temitope Balogun Joshua cannot trick God.

With good education though I can see the African being disillusioned in religion in the next 100 years and that would mark the beginning of the development of Africa. Unfortunately I would not be alive then to see the beauty of the African taking their destiny into their hands to make Africa better

Have you forgotten so soon when Mills had to travel to Nigeria to give thanks to the Lord and Pastor Joshua for prophesying his victory? Had he not been bleeding on that fateful day he went home, there were plans to send him to TB Joshua's place in Nigeria to be prayed for.

And have you forgotten just about two months ago, when 200 or so people were selected by our President and his people to go to Israel and pray for the him and the Nation?

So if we have our rich leaders who want nothing in life still seeking help from these "super" pastors, how much more our uneducated people who have nothing and need miracle to survive?

I have stopped blaming the "poor" after thinking about this deeply and start putting the problems at the doors of our rich leaders who have everything in life- free cars, housing, gas, househelps, Police escorts, call girls, etc and yet strife to seek help from this "super" pastors.

Lets be serious, this is not a good article! Poorly written and at best reads like a bad Jeremy Clarkson article! When I read a column in The Guardian on Africa, the last thing I want to read is an arrogant journalist pulling a tantrum because there is traffic in front of her house. Try taking your daughter to school when you live in Mayfair and see how far you go on Piccadilly!

KAD, may I point out that this article is about the phenomenon of pastors being celebrities in Ghana. It is not about traffic jams or the nationality of musicians. No need to kick up a storm over the non-essential aspects.

The trio of poverty, disease and ignorance cause ghanaians and most africans untold hardships.We are overly superstitious and believe everything that happens has some spiritual/magical/superstitious connotation and significance.
We demanded for political independence and got it. We took down the shackles and pretended we had a quality. The clueless and greedy politicians failed to teach us that it is only hard work that will produce the quality of life we desire. It also took us forever to understand that fetishism is a hoax (akom y3 nnaadaa). It produced no tangible results so we turned to christianity. Christianity brought us no relief either from the trio of poverty, disease and ignorance because we misunderstand the basic and principal concepts of christianity.
We blame everybody but ourselves for everything that happens to us. We fail to take personal responsibility for our thoughts and actions. We hunt for a miracle from pretenders who call themselves men of God. What we dont know is that faith precedes the miracle and faith without works is dead. The farmer plants his seed because he has the faith that the seed will germinate and grow and be harvested. When I'm looking for a job after I've got myself an education I pray to God and go out and look for a job. I dont sit in my room and pray all year long and think the job through some TBJ miracle is going to come find me in my room.
Meanwhile diseases endemic to the tropics are on the loose since we live in filth and squalor and soon become widespread.Since we attribute everything to superstition we as a people have made very little effort to find out about our common and deadly diseases let alone find the cure for them.We've failed to do what the US and other developed nations saw fit to do and are still doing and reaping the rewards; pumping millions of dollars into research work in cancer and other diseases.To us everything has always been and is still shrouded in mystery and superstition.We lack basic understanding and we have no motivation for self improvement.
Since poverty, disease and ignorance are inseparable companions they afflict our people at the same time. The worst affected are the uneducated.
The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be deliberately chosen or automatically expressed. Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought.. Sickly thoughts will express themselves through a sickly body. Thoughts of fear have been known to kill a man as speedily as a bullet. The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it.Anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body, and lays it open to the entrance of disease. Strong, pure and happy thoughts build up the body in vigor and grace. Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts. When a man makes his thoughts pure he no longer desires impure food.If you would perfect your body guard your mind. If you would renew your body, beautify your mind.Thoughts of malice, envy,suspicion,cynicism disappointment, despondency rob the body of its health and grace. To live continually like this is to be confined in a self-made prison hole. But to think well of all, to be cheerful with all,to patiently learn to find the peace in all; such unselfish thoughts are the very portals of heaven and to dwell day by day in thoughts of peace toward every creature will bring abounding peace to their possessor. These are principles of Christianity. God created us in His image and likeness and wants us to become like Him. We can only become like Him if we follow his Plan of Happiness or His Plan of Salvation.
When poverty, disease and ignorance increase despondency also increase. People become desperate and clutch onto anything. TBJ comes very handy because he can talk and convince the poor soul and rob him of his last ten dollars. The peoples problems never get solved but are compounded because TBJ and his fellow pretenders, reprobates and apostates keep treating throat cancer with holy water, etc.
What the people need from their lazy, uncaring and corrupt government is not more T. B. Joshuas or more fake prophets but more schools of every kind for all, for both young and old, more jobs, better sanitation, good drinking water, better diet and improved eating habits,more sports and recreation, physical fitness, a corruption free society, no laziness, better manners,re-defined values system, cessation of the politics of hatred, tribalism and selfish greed,etc, etc.When this happens T.B. Joshua and all the pretenders will be unemployed and people will begin to worship their God in spirit and in truth and they will love their fellow men as themselves. They will find peace and joy and their God Almighty will bless them.When God sent Adam out of the garden of Eden He taught them the principle of work and told Adam :"from the sweat of thy brow shall thou eat bread". That means hard work. He did not ask him to be a loafer and He did not promise Adam he would eat without the labor of his hands. We have become a nation of beggars. The government is the beggar-chief. Corruption has eaten into every fabric of society and the government is the apostle in chief for corruption. We reap where we have not sown. That means we become thieves and robbers of any kind. The nation needs a rebirth in both spiritual and temporal things.Jesus came to save people from their sins and not in their sins.He said it's an adulterous generation that looks for miracles.T.B.Joshua and his pretenders in crime are leading the people astray, away from the core principles of Christianity. People, lets renew our minds and live anew.
