Every group has her own "mensah", as the saying goes. Never judge a tribe or a nation through the actions of the few misfits in the midst. We all know how most of us are quick to brand Nigerians as criminals 419ers. However the most amazing and incredible act of hospitality I have ever witnessed in my live was shown by a Nigerian bus driver when I found myself in downtown Lagos surrounded by hard core criminals and pick pockets at about 6pm in 1982. I was on my way to visit my elder brother who was teaching in Bendel State at that time. For some inexplicable reasons, our passenger car from Accra got to Lagos at 6pm. Every passenger in the car was a resident in Lagos except me. The last bus to Bendel had left just before I arrived at the station. With nowhere to go, and this being my first time in Nigeria, I resigned myself to the unimaginable. All of a sudden, a young Nigerian man approached me and after listening to my plight, offered to drive me in his passenger bus to Ibadan to spend the night there and continue my journey the following morning. On reaching Ibadan, this man took me home to meet his wife and other family members, let his wife prepare very special meal for me. The family was extremely receptive. The amazing thing is that this man gave me his own bedroom to sleep for the night while he slept with another relative and his wife also slept with her mother in a separate room. The next morning, the man took me to Bendel station in Ibadan to board a vehicle to my destination. He even inquired from me if I have enough money left on me to make the trip to my destination.
I am telling this story to buttress my point that you never paint a whole tribe or nation with the same brush just because of the actions of a few rotten apples.

Ebe, it is 'cos I share your views that led me to read your post, amidst the many I won't bother to read. I had taken on Ewe NDC supporters and some pretending to be Ewes who come here to insult Asantes in particular wholesale, as if some Asantes don't support the NDC too. I tried to reason with Kola in London that such ad nauseam insults are counter-productive and reduce them to the same level of idiocy, even worse, as those who come here to insult Ewes. It is not even all members and supporters of the PP/NPP tradition that see Ewes as enemies. Even the Matemeho tradition that joined others to form the UP was not an anti-Ewe tradition, as the UP tradition included Ewe parties such as the Togoland Congress and the Anlo Youth Congress that sent a delegation to grace the formation of the NLM. Of course, the Anlos started the revolt against the CPP in 1953, and eventually led the coup in 1966 that brought the PP to power. The breach in this unholy alliance, which dates back to pre-colonial days, must be put at the doorstep of Busia and his PP, with the virulently anti-Ewe campaign in 1969.

Now, I don't know whether I've to introduce myself to you, as I presume I am already well known in cyberspace. But for the avoidance of doubt, I am indeed an Anlo (those Ahoofe has singled out for persistent attack and vilification even if not responsible for an action), and no ordinary Anlo for that matter, cos, like you, my clan is on top of the chieftaincy pile.

Now, just look at what Ahoofe wrote:

His response was very much appropriate, stating clearly that he didn't know about the circumstances that led to his exit from Oxford, even though there was still some buzz around that when he got there.

Ewes can envy others but not because of money. Indeed a common Ewe prejudice about Akans is that they (Akans) like money too much and think money is everything. So from where comes the envy?

If Kpegah sues Akufo-Addo for impersonation, why should that be because all Ewe are envious? Not all Ewes on this forum support Bokor's incessant writings on this topic and all those who support him are not Ewes.

And what, exactly, should Tsatsu Tsikata be envious of Akufo-Addo for? What, exactly?

This matter is before the court and no matter what we say here about tribes and even about the case itself will affect the outcome of the court case. I can understand if people discuss the legal implications of the case as an academic exercise but to go beyond that to try to imply that the case and how it is being treated implicitly shows the superiority of one tribe over another is completely ridiculous.

-Thus, Ewes like all human beings possess the propensity to envy, and this include envying those who are successful, including those with money- but I don't that envy is any more evident in Ewes than their Akan counterpart- otherwise, why would there be this excessive and incessant competition among them to succeed, even at all cost; even if it means using unscrupulous means to do it?

- One can then conclude that if the Akans think that Ewes are envious of them, there could be truth to that but credit must be given to the Ewe who would not pursue success and riches ALL COST, including using unconventional means that see some of the Akan stock in jail in the West, and some having received death by capital punishment in Asia and Middle East!

You're right in your statement that envy is a human trait that should be found in both Akan and Ewe and that all people will be envious of people who are successful.

But, as you pointed out yourself, the operational term here is that excessive and inordinate love for money that Ewe prejudice says Akans exhibit. That is the AT ALL COST of your formulation. Ewes too love money and they can also be envious of the successful but traditional Ewe values teach that money is not everything. This, I contend, will give the lie to Akan prejudice that Ewes are envious of Akans because Akans are richer. Ewes will, therefore, not have that need to get money at all costs which will make them envious of Akans who are more successful in that endeavour than Ewes are. That is the crux of my argument.

Note, too, that I am talking of prejudices with all the troublesome implications that the word carries.

Any foreign reader of these claims of Ewes envying Akans will be confused beyond measure as to who is actually doing the envying: the Akan accusers or the Ewes alleged to have all the govt jobs, all the scholarships, control the army and the police, to whom the President Mahama is just a stooge doing their bidding, name it! So what exactly do the Akans have which the Ewes are envious of???

Money? From where? So Ewes don't get any money from all that they are said to be controlling? Who pay the school fees for their children, who are alleged to be too many in higher educational institutions? And the teachers, lecturers, doctors, health care workers, etc. working in their remotest villages? Should the be removed so that Akans fill those posts, since it is so hard to get Ewes to accept posting to the VR, thanks to its long years of neglect, even worse under Rawlings, a half-Ewe?

Folks, it is just a ploy claiming Ewes envy Akans. For what????? I travelled extensively around Akan land collecting data, from Accra to Shama, Elmina, Sekondi-Takoradi and then from Cape Coast, (where I was based staying in the house on top of the hill at Brofoyeduru with Kwasi who supervised the building of the Kakum Tourist resort) through Fante Kumasi to Kumasi proper. Kumasi to Jacobu. Kumasi to Nyinahin and then to Bibiani in the W/R for day trip; Kumasi to Accra, through.... I was shocked at what I saw! I said on Okyeame a long time ago, to these claims of Ewes envy Akans, that some of the houses in which people were living, Anloga shallot farmers wouldn't even store their shallots in, and those areas are supposed to be cocoa growing areas!

In Jacobu, I thought I was the first Ewe traveling there, as it appears like traveling to the end of the world. I was wrong! The rural bank guest room in which I was supposed to stay already had a mean looking Ewe man staying there in the house! I chose to get a room at the only guest house in the town, as the place was dirty. Nice woman guest house-keeper, whose widowed snr sister requested that I found a good Anlo widow for him to marry! See how she twisted her nose when I struggled to ask in my mix of broken Twi and English: what about an Asante man?

C'mon, Ewes don't envy Akans for the mere fact that they are Akans. MANY AKANS ENVY EWES! PERIOD! They think we have what they MUST have as their birthright! But which dogs born them to claim such "birthrights" without working for it?
