Before VRA and ECG request for increase in tariff, they must tell us whether Wireko Brobbey has refunded all monies he wasted on the TOYS he imported from USA and returned them with our money? NONSENSE

When?do they deserve any at all with hydro/thermal mix of 70/30 %?.What did they do with previous increments and the earlier promises ''no more lights off''.

Actually Ghanaian consumer pays less for electricity compared to other consumers in the sub-region. On the average a consumer in Ghana pays around 15pes/kwh(8cents/kwh) for electricity while consumers in the US pays around 10-13 cents/kwh. Remember also that the actual price of bulk electricity is far cheaper than what is being paid the average consumer. Cost of generation in the US is far cheaper than in Ghana. They rely on nuclear , coal and very cheap gas from Trinidad. On the other hand Ghana current generation mix includes about 40% from thermal generation using crude oil (about 140% more expensive than gas). Admittedly the quality of service in the US is far better than Ghana but the bottom line is tariffs in the world over are set based on economics not on quality of the service. Many consumers are demanding better service before the pay more, VRA is saying that they cannot support the current poor service on the tariff been paid. So sustainable of the poor service on higher tariff or no service at all. Make your pick!!! currently the trend is 45% thermal and 55% hydro. assuming hydro is free (wild assumption) current operation on thermal is around 30 US cents/kwh on FUEL ONLY. IF U calculate the cumulative average it around 13.5cents/kwh taken hydro component as zero. currently VRA sells it power to ECG at 4cents/kwh. so do the maths

Excuse me, with a larger volume of electricity being produced from gas once the pipeline is fixed, won't the costs go down? So what would be the justification for an increase at that time????

In Ghana, we have always preferred the short and non-lasting approach to solving problems.Instead of exploring ways that will aleviate suffering of the ordinary Ghanaians, passing on cost has always been the usual approach. But officialdom always claim they care for the ordinary man. Our care for the ordinary man has been theoretical. It is time for those on the street to give more weight to actions than words. Actions which are not temporary but lasting.
The PURC should challenge the utility providers to resolve challenges in their operations which are ineffective and which cost are passed on to the consumer.

VRA needs to produce enough energy to meet the increasing demand, that's the real problem. Therefore, the solution is to focus on the Bui Dam and the Gas Processing Plant to produce more power.Thank you.
