Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey has given mechanics operating at Dadeban Loop in the North Industrial Area until Monday, November 2, 2026, to remove all vehicles parked along the road or risk having them towed away as construction works are set to begin.
The ultimatum follows a working visit by the Mayor to the area on October 26, during which he met six leaders of the mechanic workshop to discuss the continued occupation of sections of the road earmarked for construction.
Mr Allotey said the presence of vehicles along the stretch could obstruct contractors and delay the project, insisting that the road must be cleared before work begins.
He explained that the construction forms part of the government's infrastructure development programme under President John Dramani Mahama's Reset Ghana Agenda, which seeks to improve road networks, ease transportation and support economic activities.
The Mayor disclosed that the affected mechanics had already received financial assistance from the Assembly to facilitate the relocation of their vehicles and minimise disruptions to their businesses.
He, however, warned that the support should not be an excuse for further delays, stressing that the November 2 deadline was final.
Beyond Dadeban Loop, Mr Allotey extended the directive to mechanics operating along First Close and Ninth Street, near Eden Garden Hotel, ordering them to vacate the streets to make way for improved road access.
He cautioned that operators who failed to comply would have their vehicles towed away by the Assembly.
While acknowledging the contribution of mechanics and other artisans to economic activity in the industrial enclave, the Mayor maintained that their operations must not obstruct public roads or restrict the movement of motorists and pedestrians.
He further urged business operators to cooperate with the Assembly, arguing that improved road infrastructure would benefit businesses, residents and other road users.
The workshop leaders, during the engagement, confirmed that they had received financial support to facilitate the relocation of their vehicles and indicated that arrangements were underway to vacate the affected stretch ahead of construction.
The Dadeban Loop road project is expected to improve vehicular movement, provide easier access to businesses and industrial facilities, and address existing road infrastructure challenges in the North Industrial Area.
