A letter from the Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah Boadu, inviting the Agonamanhene to the grand finale of an inter-senior high school football tournament has angered the traditional ruler, prompting him to ban the MP from holding any social event within his traditional jurisdiction.
In a letter dated October 8, 2026, the MP invited the Agonamanhene, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, to the grand finale of the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament, scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Agona Community AstroTurf.
The tournament, according to the invitation, is a youth empowerment initiative intended to discover young football talents, promote healthy competition and foster unity among senior high schools in the Sekyere South Municipality.
However, the traditional ruler took exception to the manner in which the invitation was addressed to him, describing it as disrespectful and an insult to his authority as the Omanhene of the Agona Traditional Council.
In a response dated October 21, 2026, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II expressed surprise and displeasure at the MP's decision to address him as “The Chief, Agona Traditional Council” instead of recognising his traditional title and position.
According to the Agonamanhene, he had completed several traditional rites and ceremonies following his enstoolment, including swearing before the Agona Amantuo Nson on June 4, 2026, and before the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on June 29, 2026.

He also stated that he had sat in state on July 2 and 3, 2026, offered his Aseda to the Asantehene on July 27, 2026, and celebrated his maiden and Big Akwasidae on July 19 and August 30, respectively.
The traditional ruler further noted that the Sekyere South Municipal Police Commander, the Municipal Director of Education and other dignitaries had attended some of these traditional programmes and paid homage to his authority.
He also claimed that the Municipal Chief Executive, Evans Twumasi, had attended the programmes either personally or through representatives.
Against this background, the Agonamanhene expressed disappointment that the MP had yet to show him what he considered the appropriate respect and reverence during her visits to Agona.
He described the invitation as a “huge surprise and an insult of the highest order,” questioning the thought process behind addressing him as the chief of the traditional council.
Following his objections, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II issued a directive banning the MP from organising any social event within his traditional jurisdiction, including the football tournament scheduled for October 23.
The ban covers Agona, Bipoa, Wiamoase, Bedomase, Afamanaso, Akrofonso and Amponyinamoa.
In the letter, the traditional ruler warned the MP against attempting to defy the directive and instructed the relevant municipal authorities to ensure that it was enforced until further notice.
“The following are my consequential orders,” he wrote before announcing the ban.
He further stated that he would not allow any misconduct to undermine his authority or that of Asanteman.
