The Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has attributed the failure to complete Ghana’s National Cathedral project to what he described as a lack of seriousness and commitment among Christians.

According to Archbishop Duncan-Williams, who previously served on the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project, the project was not left uncompleted because of corruption but largely because Christians failed to demonstrate the commitment required to see it through.

“The National Cathedral was not built, not because of corruption. I was right there. It was because we Christians are not serious,” he said.

Speaking in a sermon to his congregation in a video shared on social media, the Archbishop questioned the level of commitment among Christians towards supporting projects that he said would benefit the church and future generations.

He said Christians must be more concerned about posterity and the advancement of the kingdom rather than focusing solely on their personal interests.

“We are a bunch of selfish, greedy people. It’s all about us. We don’t think about the kingdom,” he stated.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams urged Christians to reflect on their contributions to the church before criticising others, stressing that believers must take responsibility for supporting the work of God.

He also criticised what he described as the reluctance of some Christians to support people in need, particularly single mothers, widows and families struggling to pay school fees and rent.

According to him, many Christians accumulate significant wealth for themselves and their immediate families but fail to make meaningful provisions for the work of God, even in their wills.

The National Cathedral of Ghana is a planned interdenominational Christian cathedral scheduled to be built in Accra, the nation’s capital.

The project was proposed by former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
