President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has stated that people will appreciate his efforts and achievements once he leaves office.

According to him, he welcomes criticism from stakeholders in the football fraternity, as it keeps him in check and motivates him to do better for the sport.

He noted that his predecessors, including Kwesi Nyantakyi, also faced staunch criticism but eventually excelled with the performances of the national teams.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Okraku indicated that people will be grateful for his service to Ghana football, just as Ghanaians eventually appreciated Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who led the nation to independence.

“It’s okay for people to have different opinions. Like I said at the Congress in Kumasi, I love this. I love people who are not only critical but constructive. It’s normal. And I don’t think any leader in our football space has enjoyed absolute peace.

"President Kofi Amoah, who served during the normalization period, faced fierce criticism. President Kwesi Nyantakyi, same. At the end, he took Ghana to the quarterfinals of the World Cup and to the finals of the AFCON,” he said.

Okraku continued: “He did his part, and my job is to play my part as well. I would say that when I’m gone, just like Kwame Nkrumah, people will appreciate. People will not only appreciate, but they will remember the good things we did for Ghana football.”
