A man attempted to flee from police custody while still wearing handcuffs shortly after a court hearing at the Sowutuom District Court on Thursday, September 4, 2026.

According to video circulating widely on social media, the suspect reportedly broke away following his appearance before the court and ran along a roadside path near the premises.

In the video sighted by GhanaWeb on September 5, 2026, police officers and bystanders were seen pursuing him on foot.

The man was eventually overtaken, restrained by multiple officers, and returned to custody.

Footage of the incident captured the chase across an open area adjacent to the court, with the suspect later seen being escorted by police personnel.

The identity of the man and the nature of the charges he faced in court have not been publicly disclosed.

Meanwhile, following the incident, some X users blasted him for attempting such an act.

According to many, it was unreasonable for someone in handcuffs to try escaping from prison.

Others were of the view that his sentence is likely to be increased after what he did.

"Foolish boy, how can you run with your hands behind you in cuffs?" one user wrote.

Another user wrote: "Now dem go increase ein sentence bassaa."

"Handcuffed. Fresh from court. Still tried to run. Some people negotiate with danger like it owes them money," one more user indicated
