A 70-year-old married man has appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo, a programme on Oyerepa TV that helps resolve domestic and relationship disputes, after a woman he allegedly planned to have a relationship with outside his marriage reportedly duped him of more than GH¢4,000.

Agya Mensah, who shared his side of the story in a video excerpt from the programme circulating on social media, said he first received a strange call from the woman.

According to him, after he answered the call, the woman told him that “my parents are no more” and that she needed money to buy food. Feeling sorry for her situation, he decided to send her some money.

Agya Mensah said the woman later called him again and began discussing the possibility of having a relationship with him. He claimed that she subsequently started asking him for money frequently.

According to him, the two eventually agreed to enter into a relationship, with the woman becoming his alleged side chick.

However, Agya Mensah said his children warned him about the woman’s intentions but he ignored their concerns.

He explained that his confidence in the relationship grew after the woman allegedly sent him a nude photograph of herself, which he said made him believe she was serious about the relationship.

“My children warned me, but I did not listen to them,” he said.

The situation, according to Agya Mensah, took a different turn when the woman told him she wanted to visit him at his house so they could meet in person.

He said he sent her money for transportation but shortly afterwards, he received another call informing him that the woman had allegedly been involved in an accident and was in critical condition.

According to him, the caller claimed that she needed money to settle medical bills.

Moved by compassion and believing the situation to be genuine, Agya Mensah said he sent her more money.

He further claimed that, before the alleged accident, the woman had introduced him to her grandmother and an uncle, who he said later became involved in the alleged deception.

According to Agya Mensah, the woman and her relatives repeatedly contacted him with updates about the supposed accident and continued requesting money for medical expenses.

He alleged that the scheme eventually resulted in him sending more than GH¢4,000 to the woman and her relatives.

“I believed the accident was real, so I kept sending the money,” he explained.

Agya Mensah said he later realised that he had allegedly been deceived and decided to appear on Oyerepa Afutuo to locate the woman and her family and demand a refund.

He expressed frustration over how the situation unfolded, saying he had only intended to help the woman but ended up losing thousands of Ghana cedis.
