The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the entire examination results of 861 candidates and the subject results of 7,434 candidates following investigations into various irregularities recorded during the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to WAEC, the subject results of the 7,434 candidates were cancelled for bringing foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials, into examination halls.

The Council also cancelled the entire results of 861 candidates for possessing mobile phones in examination halls.

In addition, WAEC said the subject results of 957 candidates and the entire results of 270 candidates had been withheld over various suspected offences.

“The decisions were approved at the 42nd Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Friday, August 7, 2026, following investigations into cases of examination irregularities recorded during the conduct of the examination, “ according to a press statement from the examination body on September 4, 2026.

WAEC further disclosed that some subject results of candidates from 169 schools had been withheld over alleged collusion.

The Council said investigations into those cases are still ongoing, stressing that the affected results could either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of the investigations.

WAEC expects the investigations to be completed by October 30, 2026.

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been directed to visit WAEC’s irregularity and investigations platform to find out the reasons for the decisions and obtain information on the next steps.

WAEC said candidates should access the platform and select the “withheld/cancelled” option on the homepage, after which they will be redirected to the irregularity and investigations page.

The Council warned candidates and other stakeholders against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade or alter examination results in exchange for money.

WAEC maintained that its examination results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system.
