Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr David Kofi Wuaku, says the gradual revival of sporting activities in Ghana presents a fresh opportunity for stakeholders to provide leadership and drive the sector forward.

Speaking during the 2026 Democracy Cup in Kumasi, Dr Wuaku said the increasing attention on sports should not be seen merely as an opportunity for competition but also as a platform for leadership and personal development.

“Sports is gradually picking up,” he said, urging Ghanaians to recognise the opportunities emerging from the sector.

He said everybody has a role to play in ensuring that the momentum generated around sports is sustained and translated into tangible benefits.

According to him, the growth of the sector requires people who are prepared to take responsibility, provide direction and create opportunities for others.

Dr Wuaku's remarks come amid growing efforts to strengthen Ghana’s sports financing and administration.

He said sustainable development of the sector would require collaboration among government, private-sector players, sporting associations, athletes and other stakeholders.

The Administrator also stressed the need to look beyond the immediate excitement generated by sporting events and focus on building systems that can support the industry in the long term.

The Ghana Sports Fund is expected to become a major vehicle for mobilising resources to support sports development, with its mandate covering the mobilisation, management and disbursement of funds for sporting activities.
