A woman has opened up about how threats from her partner left her living in fear and unable to leave the relationship.

In a viral video sighted by GhanaWeb on August 11, 2026, she recounted how her partner repeatedly threatened to maim her with acid if she ever attempted to leave him.

“If you plan to leave me, I will pour acid on you,” she recalled.

She said the threats created fear in her, particularly because the two of them were from the same village and she feared he would track her if she left.

“I had that fear in me that I can't leave this guy. We are from the same village; he is going to look for me,” she said.

She also said she had nowhere to go and feared being mocked by people in her village if she returned home after leaving the relationship.

“I don't have anywhere to go. I can't go to the village for people to mock me. So, I said, okay, I am not going to leave you,” she explained.

According to her, the threats became a recurring part of the relationship. During misunderstandings, her partner would allegedly remind her of what he kept under their bed.

“Anytime there is a misunderstanding, he will say, ‘You know what is under the bed,’” she recalled.

She said she knew there was a container under the bed and became increasingly afraid that it contained acid.

“I changed completely. I became so quiet, like I wasn't existing. And that was how I lived. I was also afraid of acid because I learnt that when you touch it, it can even burn you,” she said.

She said the situation lasted for about six years, during which her partner also placed restrictions on her movements and interactions with other people.

According to her, whenever a man called her phone, her partner would demand to speak to him.

“Anytime someone calls me and the person is a male, he will ask me to give him the phone, and if he calls the person and the person doesn't pick, there is a problem,” she said.

She said such incidents happened repeatedly throughout the relationship.

“He told me not to go anywhere, so I was always in the house,” she added.
