Paul Awentami Afoko, an aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that he harboured so much anger after his suspension that he did not want to have anything to do with some leaders of the party.

Afoko, a former National Chairman of the NPP, was suspended on October 23, 2015, by the party’s National Executive Committee following a recommendation from its National Disciplinary Committee.

He disclosed that, as a result of the suspension, seeing certain party leaders, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on television would anger him.

“They said I was disrespectful and that is okay but I still love the party. At the time, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to have anything to do with the party; it was certain individuals within the party that I didn’t want to hear from.

“Some of the national leaders. So, while living in my house in Sandema, during breakfast time, whenever I saw them on TV, I changed the channel,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM on August 6, 2026, Afoko added that whenever he saw some of those individuals speaking on television, he would immediately switch channels.

When asked whether the former president was among those whose appearances prompted him to change channels, he answered in the affirmative, saying he used to switch channels whenever he saw Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo speaking on television.

“I changed the channel because I had so much anger in me. But after a year, that anger left me. Even so, it did not stop me from receiving local NPP members. It is a regime; former President John Agyekum Kufuor came and left, Nana Akufo-Addo came and has also left but the party will remain,” he added.

According to Afoko, he has since visited Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as part of efforts to promote unity within the party.
