Nana Otuo Siriboe Safo Kankam, the Mawerehene of Adoagyir in the Eastern Region, has petitioned the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) after his son’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results allegedly changed from good to worse within two days.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on August 8, 2026, Nana Otuo Siriboe Safo Kankam said his son initially checked his BECE results after they were released and obtained a lowest grade of 2; however, he said that when he asked his son to check and print the results again two days later, he realised that the results had changed significantly.

According to Nana Otuo Siriboe Safo Kankam, he has evidence, including screenshots of the different results slips and is demanding an explanation from WAEC over the alleged discrepancy.

“One of my children sat for the BECE and when the results came, he went to check and the results were good. So, I asked him to check again and the results had changed from good to bad.

“I have all the screenshots on my phone. Just two days after I asked him to check his first grade again, his lowest grade, which was 2, had changed to a different result, which was worse. I have written a letter, a petition to WAEC, to explain to me why that happened,” he said.

He was speaking in relation to recent reports alleging that WAEC had marked down candidates from private schools in the recent BECE, a claim the examination body has disputed.
