A woman has alleged that she agreed to sell her newborn baby girl to a hospital for GH¢30,000 after staff allegedly offered to buy the child shortly after delivery.

According to her, despite selling her baby, she was paid GH¢27,000 instead, with the remaining GH¢3,000 allegedly deducted to cover expenses incurred during her pregnancy.

Speaking on Ahenfie FM on August 3, 2026, and sighted by GhanaWeb, the woman claimed the alleged offer was made after she went through a difficult labour that left her with serious complications.

According to her, the baby became stuck during delivery, and she pleaded with the midwife to perform a small cut to help deliver the child, but they declined.

"I was given forced labour at the hospital. I was in severe pain due to that, which resulted in me suffering complications. The opening of my womb got torn due to the forced labour. My baby had gotten stuck, so I asked them to make at least a small cut to pave the way for the baby to come out, but I was told that if they did, they wouldn’t be able to suture me up since they don’t know how to do it," she alleged.

She claimed that after giving birth, hospital staff allegedly offered her GH¢30,000 in exchange for her newborn baby.

"My baby finally came out, and they told me they would take the child, so I called home to inform them that the baby had died. The hospital told me they would take my baby girl in exchange for GH¢30,000," she claimed.

The woman further alleged that a midwife instructed her to leave the baby behind before she was discharged from the hospital the following day.

"The midwife told me to leave the baby with her, which I did. I packed my things and left the hospital for the house the following day," she said.

She explained that she told her family the baby had died, adding that the child's father and his family did not question her because they had shown little interest in the pregnancy.

"The father of the child and his family did not show any interest in the pregnancy from the beginning, so they also did not try to ask questions or even demand the baby’s dead body since I claimed it was dead," she stated.

She also claimed she received GH¢27,000 instead of the agreed GH¢30,000 because she was told the remaining GH¢3,000 had been used to cater for her pregnancy.

"They initially gave me GH¢27,000 immediately after they took my baby, and they said they had used some of the money to cater to my pregnancy, which was why they gave me the GH¢27,000. I delivered on May 23, 2026, and it's been three months now. They threatened me, so I could not speak up about the issue," she alleged.

Asked why she had decided to speak up now, the woman said she wants her baby back and also wants to expose what she described as the bad practices allegedly being carried out by some health facilities.
