Former Deputy Minister of Energy, Collins Adomako Mensah, has expressed concern about renewed power outages, popularly referred to as “dumsor,” but added that the fear of arrest is discouraging open public discussion on the matter.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam on May 20, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North said that even as a Member of Parliament’s Energy Committee, he now feels constrained in commenting on the situation due to what he described as growing tension around criticism of the power sector.
“As a member of the Energy Committee, I even wanted to talk about dumsor, but I can no longer do so because I will be arrested. Coming from my constituency on Tuesday morning, there was no light. But once I talk about it, I fear I will be arrested,” he stated.
Adomako Mensah further admitted that his fears stem from the conduct of security agencies, noting that recent events have created a climate of caution among public figures.
“One thing I fear most is the police. So, now, we are all quiet,” he said.

He also cited the recent arrest and detention of Agona West NPP Organiser, David Essandoh, who was picked up after allegedly criticising President John Dramani Mahama over the return of “dumsor.”
“David Essandoh was arrested for writing that dumsor is back and we had to intervene to bail him. So, now, I prefer to keep quiet,” the MP remarked.
