'They don't care about reset' - Kwesi Pratt Jnr slams internal NDC power struggles

Veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi Pratt Jnr has claimed that President John Dramani Mahama is being politically undermined by people within his own government who are more focused on succession battles than helping him deliver on his promises to Ghanaians.

Speaking in a TikTok video shared by political commentator Baba Amando, Pratt painted a picture of deep internal divisions within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the situation as both disappointing and dangerous to the President’s legacy.

“To be honest, I feel very sad for President John Dramani Mahama; the betrayal of President John Dramani Mahama is monumental,” Pratt said.

According to him, President Mahama entered office with a clear vision to reform key sectors of the economy under what he described as a “reset agenda,” but some of the very people appointed to help implement that vision have allegedly shifted their focus to political ambition and internal positioning.

“This is a gentleman who came to the people of Ghana and said, look, there are problems with the country, and I want to solve the problems in the educational sector, health sector and so on. He proclaimed a reset agenda,” he stated.

Pratt, however, alleged that many appointees within the administration no longer appear interested in supporting those policy goals.

“And he appointed people to assist him to realise that objective. Many of the people he appointed to help him realise that objective don’t just care. They don’t care about reset. They don’t care about restructuring the economy. All they care about is replacing him,” he claimed.

In one of the interview's strongest moments, Pratt expressed sympathy for the President, saying he believes Mahama is increasingly isolated within his own administration.

“Poor Mahama. Poor Mahama. And he’s sitting there being held hostage,” he said.

He further argued that the President has struggled to assert authority over individuals he believes are openly engaging in premature political manoeuvring.

“He’s not been able to crack the whip. They’re dancing around him in circles and making nonsense of all the proclamations he has made. It’s unbelievable,” Pratt added.

The veteran journalist also pointed to conversations happening on social media platforms associated with the NDC, arguing that discussions about governance and policy implementation have been overshadowed by succession politics.

“Visit the NDC social media platforms and see what is happening there. Who is talking about how to achieve the 24-hour economy? That’s not their concern. It’s about who is going to replace Mahama,” he said.

Pratt warned that such internal divisions could weaken the President politically and undermine his ability to leave behind a strong legacy.

“So the people he appointed to help him leave a legacy are saying to us, ‘Oh, don’t worry, very soon you’ll become a lame duck. That’s what they say. They say, ‘By next year, you’ll be a lame dog. You have no power. We don’t have to respect him. So let’s start our campaign,” he added.
